    Rant!

A friend of mine works in childcare earning 44k pa.

Her supervisor left and she took on the responsibilities immediately because it was a crisis and she was the only one qualified to do it. 2 months on she was still doing it.

She enquired if she was entitled to higher duty pay and they quickly offered her the opportunity to be the room leader permanently. On the same pay.

She tried to negotiate but they wouldn't budge so she did, and starts at a new workplace in 2 weeks. :)

The difference between the two roles is like 5k a year! They are sooo tight! My friend doesn't even need the extra cash but just felt very used.

Blows my mind that they would do that to people on such low wages. Morally its a crap thing to do.....but the business case isn't great either. They now have to wear the recruitment costs for a new staff member who will need to get paid the proper salary all because they were stingy over a 5k payrise...to a great employee. Dumb.

    End of rant.....:)

And it wasn't even actually a pay rise, it was just the correct pay!

    I'm sure this isn't legal.

Shows how vulnerable people are without support in the workplace.

FT, no package. Basic award wage. The initial wage is correct.

It's the pay for the higher responsibility where the issue lies.

Lodge a claim with Fairy Work Oztraya - if she's an award worker and hasn't been paid her correct allowances, I'm sure that they would want to hear about it.

Hopefully she follows up... That is a really unfair position to be in!

I don't think she will. Could be a career ending move here. This town is too small.

It is easier to leave respectfully and go work somewhere else. Luckily there is a shortage of childcare workers here. She has her pick of centres...

    What a disgrace.

Why would anybody want to push Indians in a trolley?

And where are they being pushed to?

Funnily enough, I also get numerous calls from people who want to install solar panels.

But they are quick to hang up when i tell them the building has a DA on it and is going to be demolished...

Id tell her to report it to fair work if she really was underpaid. The employer will be the one who should be embarrassed and left red faced. The parents of the town should turn on the dodgey employer not the ripped off employee.. People don't like employers who don't play by the rules..look at the Masterchef guy!
