Yes indeed. Even hirng twice per year would take well over 5yrs for purchase of equivalent machine to break even without maintenance costs included.....

A new decent ride on with at least 42 in deck & hydrostatic drive will be ~$3500+. FWD versions much more. Unless you use it 4-5+ times per year, other options like hiring may be more sensible financially. Or even better, pay someone else to do it.... that's what I've done for past 4 yrs on my ~10 acres. Probably spent only about $1500 in that time & haven't lifted more than a finger.....

Very nice DK. The write up on the Sherpa is pretty good. You had me at "Made in Germany". What sort of hire charge for this one ?

Actually an Olympic event. The pre closing ceremony of the Sydney Olympics.

I was in the crowd. You should be able to see me.

There is no reason that anybody on this forum should not be running a John Deere, given your post.

Although maybe the owner should invest in a ROPS...

I love the idea of having a ride on mower. I just need to get the land to match

    Nice!

My sister has a few hundred acres. Not sure I can get the ride on in my Datsun 180b?

Maybe a SSS will be able to fit it in the back seat. if not, modify a slasher to fit under what could quietly be described as:-

ONE OF THE GREATEST VEHICLES OF ALL TIME!

Just put a slashing deck under the car - your 180b IS the mower. So much fun doing circle work :)

I tried to kill Miss Fergie the vintage tractor on the weekend by running over a pile of flexible water hose/pipe and getting it wrapped around the slashing deck. It was well hidden in some deep grass.
I couldn't dislodge it and couldn't raise the slasher as the hose had the blades stuck tight. Thankfully my neighbour was around pruning his grape vines and he showed me how to release the PTO so I could raise the deck and we pulled all the pipe out.
It wasn't the only thing I ran over in the long grass, managed to get a tree limb jammed between the front and rear axel. I really should walk the long grass before I ride gungho into it
