Do any of you buy a gift when an agent does a good job in selling your place, a bunch of flowers, bottle of wine etc or do you just let them enjoy the commission and not worry?

    You are awesome.
It's usually the other way around. Agents will buy gifts for both purchases and vendors after a sale.

Let them enjoy their commission. But also of more value to them would be a testimonial or a google review and/or your referral of a friend or colleague.

If its a particularly bad bottle of battery acid they give you, feel free to regift it to the agent.

Otherwise not expected but for an agent who has gone over and above, a nice gesture nonetheless

Adding a view from an agents perspective for you - Received lots of gifts: wine, spirits, chocolate, gold class vouchers, hampers, etc. Its awesome and really lifts my whole week, but greatest gift of all is recommendations to others.

Have also sent a few gifts out to investors or tenants too ;) Its nice to be appreciated sometimes.

I consider their commission as more than enough!

If I had a property to sell and the agent quoted me a sale price of $2.5M and their commission was 2.5%, I would offer them an incentive/gift of an extra 0.5% if they got me $3M.

I went to three auctions yesterday to conduct due diligence on three different REA/auctioneer teams. IMHO, two were disasters (have been scratched from my list) and one was totally professional (needs further research to ensure it wasn't a 'flash in the pan').

I would rather keep the good guys in business and watch the bad guys go to the wall.

Good! Have a look at their recent past sales too and see if the sales prices are solid or at or above your expectations.

Best thing you can do is rave about them to friends/family/colleagues/anyone that could use their services.

Post a review on social media and google too.

    Cheers

thanks all, I might not worry as it seems it's not that common. I guess if you are selling a 2 m+ property and they sell it quickly above asking price then they probably should be buying a gift for you if they are making tens of thousands for a couple of days work. but then again an extra hundred k on your price could make you pretty happy too.

On this subject, what cut would an agent usually take home our of the commission the agency gets?

Dunno about that! Sold 2 houses and purchased 2 during 2015/16 and no gifts were provided by either party.
