    Hello everyone,

I've been looking for a first home around the north east of Melbourne. Budget is 550k and I'd like a 2 bedroom. I've been mostly looking at apartments in Preston, Heidelberg, Thornbury,,

I've noticed a couple of townhouses in Reservoir in my budget such as this one:

There's a few in this price around this area. I've had a walk around and it's a bit dodgy with all the housing commision, but it is just off the tram line, near summerhill shopping centre, and close to oakhill estate, which I've found is one of the nice parts of Reservoir..

Anyone have thought on this area? Specifically 2 bedroom townhouses?

    Thank you!

You should stick with townhouses/standalone houses, most apartments are a no no (discussed to death on the forums). I believe @The Y-man knows his way pretty well around these areas. I know Oakhill's supposed to be nice, so I don't believe you can go wrong. 2 bedroom THs are going to be shoeboxes, CG could potentially be low but it doesn't look like CG's the point of your research (you're going to live in it for proximity to something, right?). If you aren't pressed to be in a certain area, look further out. Ideally, a standalone property's going to be better in the longer run. Maybe bigger properties in T-town/Epping etc?

There's others that are more knowledgeable of Res :D My hood is further north in T-town and Epping....

@Elle222 I was going to say "ugh!! a new fangled joint!" but then realised you are looking for your own home. So comes down to what YOU want to live in.

    The others are right.

In some way, it's a trade-off between a bigger place vs school & convenience.
