    Hi all,

Does anyone have experience to know if $2k incl GST is a reasonable price to replace & removal of 17.5m asbestos fence with 1.8m high colourbond fencing in Perth?

    Breakdown is
$43/m incl GST for removal and disposal
$70/m incl GST for colourbond fence

    Thanks

I just got 6 quotes for the same type of job in Perth. The best was

$45 per/m + GST for removal and disposal
$70 per/m + GST for supply and Install 1.8m Colorbond Fencing

It's a rental property? The removal and disposal you can probably claim as a deduction - the govt are keen to get rid of asbestos. You might even be able to the replacement fence as a deduction. That sort of thing has been allowed in similar scenarios.

Thanks Depreciator. Yes it is a rental property and I have an existing depreciation schedule for the property. Am I right that my accountant will be best positioned to know if removal and disposal is deductible and also to depreciate the cost of the new fence?

Yep. Your accountant will know. Removal and disposal is a no brainer deduction. Replacement is less certain but there will references of similar ATO decisions. Much better to claim it as a deduction than depreciate it at 2.5%.

    Your price looks competitive.
Cheapest in Perth I have had done is $65pm. That was Eline fencing as MR D has suggested above. Had him quote another job for me today on a new purchase.

Asbestos gets pricey. Non asbestos removal would be around $10pm (or free if big job) and asbestos from $30pm on wards but usually deductible in full if tenanted.

Have also had AA fencing do a big job for me recently at another property. 100 odd metres. This was $80pm due to all the trees and access and $35pm asbestos removal.

    Hope this helps.

I used these guys on a job recently. Absolutely atrocious and such hard work. I vowed never to use them again.

Thanks all. Given my PM's previous experience with the fencing company (JHS Fencing), their ability to do the work asap, and relatively competitive quote, I went ahead with the company I had. It was a little urgent as each tenant had a dog which were a little aggressive to each other and rather avoid the risk of the dogs injure each other and tenants pointing the finger at me for an iffy fence.

Make sure you get it written really clearly on the paperwork that you are 'replacing a damaged and deteriorating asbestos fence'. Photos would be a good idea, too. You especially want photos of any damage.
