Noticing cracks around the house always freak me out.

What would be your opinion on these brickwork and mortar cracks?

Are these indication of serious issues? Structural or something else?

Only the second and third pic show cracks, these are either thermal expansion or maybe the mud/cement was a bit too dry when being laid and dried too quickly.

    Pic's 1 & 4 are just poor bricklaying

    This ^^^^^^

(Hang a sign from the two nails in the picture and you won't see the crack).

Thanks guys. I was so worried that I was contemplating getting a structural engineer which would cost me $700.

Why would poor bricklaying cause hair line cracks on the brick itself? This is in the first image.

And what will eventually happend with the cracked mortars? Wouldnt they just fall out in time?

If one brick carries more weight than others it could crack. If bricks are not laid more or less same height, they could crack. If one brick has more impurities than others it could crack. If brick doesn’t have enough room to expand when it’s hot, it could crack.

Overall, I wouldn’t be concerned with your pics

In a lot of the places in the brickwork, the mortar flakes off when I scratch with my hand. Is this because of the mud/cement being too dry when it was laid?

    Thank you. That's a relief.
