    "Friends" shouldn't buy property jointly...Get legal advice. Your son cant claim a 100% main residence exemption either !!

    With respect to a company that's fine if you want to pay CGT without a discount. Otherwise it makes no sense.

    Simplest option for my case is just to continue sharing the cost of a private rental between the three of us. I thought of the company getting it as the only reason I need to be in the city will be for the occasional meeting for work and the kid has to live in the city so could combine a bunch of things when I flee back to the country and abandon everyone.

    Kid's account is going to be high enough to buy something when she finishes school, not without my income though unless she does very well out of what she does. Maybe she could get something and have him board in the spare room :)

    Ah, renting to/with involved parties. This stuff is complicated!
