Advice sought on character house. I have a ppor house in Paddington Brisbane. A workers cottage from 1900.
Anyone have experience renovating queenslander style homes willing to swing by next time they are near and give their opinion and some free advice?
I need a bit of a plan and not sure where to start.
For specific rooms/areas I would post on here but I feel like I need the whole picture reviewed. So I can develop a plan.
    Thanks

Would be interested to hear what you come up with as we've just bought a c1925 character house and are looking to renovate it internally and also add an extension (upstairs to enable beach views) but at the same maintain the quaintness and character that it has.

I think the worst possible thing you could do is modernise it too far to lose what you have. Do you have any photos of it?

There is a bloke here called Tim86. He's the one you want. He seems like a good bloke. I'm sure if he's not too far away he would come over for a beer and a chat.

    Very keen to see photos!

What exactly are you wanting to do? Add x number of bedrooms & bathrooms?

And if you throw up a mud-map of a floor plan on here, you never know what the layout gurus might be able to suggest....

Add a kitchenette to self contain downstairs. Jackhammer out the floor to make the rumpus legal height (?). Cant raise now.
Build up and capture better city views (not for a while on that one - cant afford)
Fix up my built in (decades ago) patio which is now a sunroom but has this old beat up feeling about it.
Can't decide about skylight in bathroom. Its a weird config, used to be a kitchen. Its not mouldy dark but it feels closed in even though its quite large.
Build steps up to back garden bed for access.
Fix up one of the bedrooms which is used as a very large walk in robe but doesn't work well (good idea and I don't need it as a bed but needs reconfiguring)
    Strategic fretwork

I wouldn't be touching the current floor slab just to make the height clearance compliant, before raising latter on.. You'll be redoing your work.

It won't be raised. It can't be. Will have an extra storey put on top at the back.
Come over vb I will show you

Yeah I want to come over too. You can give me some 'ideas' on the jack-hammmering. Next meet up @ Tim's?
