Remove trees from Land -NO VPO or SLO Overlay - Melbourne

    Hi there
    Can Maroondah Council Melbourne refuse permission to remove a tree from my private land because its Mature ?
    There is no overlay of VPO or SLO on the property
    I called up the council and they said that I can remove any tree from my private property if there is no overlay
    But because its only verbal and I don't have anything in writing, just wanted to recheck with experienced members
