I just bought a 3 bedroom 1 bathroom IP. There is a sliding door between the bedroom and the bathroom. The sliding door is not working well. I am considering the below two options:

Option1: replacing it with a normal door with hinges

Pro: easy access to the bathroom.
Con: noise from the bathroom. less privacy

Option 2: Removing the door and blocking the access

Pro: Can not hear the noise from the bathroom
Con: accessing the bathroom is less convenient

What is your thought? I have attached some photos.

Two normal doors opening inwards will eat up a lot of space in a 3.6 x 3.0m room.

if you block it, you lose the ‘ensuite’.

I’d make the sliding door work properly.

Fix the sliding door (Replace it) and add a toilet to make it a proper Ensuite.

I'd be inclined to plaster up the entry !
I've always had a dislike for these two way bathrooms.
It's an odd set up with the access to the shower zone being via the toilet, might be time for a bathroom reno while you are at it ;)

So the only access to the bathroom is through the toilet or through a bedroom?

    Seems very odd.

That is an awful layout. I'm inclined to build a whole new bathroom /toilet in the smallest bedroom and change this end of the house into a bedroom.

Guessing that the toilet is walled in like it is to accomodate wheelchair access?

There is a toilet in the bathroom. it is not an ensuite as there is only one bathroom in the house. It is just that the main bedroom has direct access to it through that sliding door.

Yes, the layout was not good. The house was built for a disabled person.

Yes. That is right. I will put a door on the entry to the toilet.

It would cost too much to do a bathroom reno, $8000+. As the property costs less than $300k and it is in a low social economic area, I tend to keep the current bathroom and replace it down the track.

There is only one door. The sliding door gets jammed easily.
