Ok I saved 50%, going the China route, small bathroom. Estimates as high as I think $26,000.
    Did it for $13,000

I'm sure it's lovely. Seen some of those photos, and I'm jealous.

A few years back I was helping a mate build a pool deck that wrapped up into a bench seat as well. We decided that it was the perfect place to put a beer fridge. One section of the bench was attached to gas struts so it lifted with ease. All so you never had to go anywhere to get a drink.
    Australian ingenuity? Maybe.. Maybe not

Couple of other ideas for home builders:
    - Fire proof safe built into the slab (maybe inside a wardrobe)
    - spare key spot in one of the bricks

It is unusual ( hence contributing to this post ).

I would like to hear from anyone expert in macerating toilets or plumbing with their views or experiences.

Used to reduce cost of excavation. Sometimes used in dongas or to convert laundry/garage.

Septics, loos and number 2s are important to me :) . Are they important to anyone else?

I've been watching a series about people in the UK and Europe opening hotels. One of them had macerating toilets, which were ugly, and apparently make a lot of noise.

If I had to install one because there was no way to add a toilet otherwise, I'd look at it I guess. But it would not be first choice.

We stayed in an AirBnb that had a macerating toilet. It was noisy & I was not impressed.

I have so many mental images and sounds from reading the words macerating toilets that I just can't cope :p
I have no experience with them but I do know how to keep a septic system happy.

I'm sorry but they sound absolutely disgusting ... and I grew up with a bucket under the toilet seat.

Much prefer a biocycle system - and have even been to and AirBNB when you had to drop a bag of sawdust down the inside "long drop" twice a day (which felt strange but worked)

Next time there isn't enough room for a seperate basin in a WC I will prob use this (not in a full bathroom though)

Bunnings have sold them for years. They look very low rent and the cistern is really small. I wonder what happens if someone uses too much soap etc...Bubbles and grime in the cistern ?

Like the bidet / water dispenser has never taken off as a choice. There is a barrier to me seemingly washing my hands in the cistern. And you know I wonder how many backpackers think the top part is a urinal combo ?

I always wonder, being a small space item, how does one actually reach the basin? By leaning over the bowl? Sounds a very awkward reach
