My tenant has asked if we could install an inverter air conditioner in the IP apartment in Brisbane. Any recommendations on where to look to buy one besides HN and The Good Guys? (I am not in BNE). Is it a better option to buy one online and then get an independent relevant tradie to install it or to buy from the likes of HN and get them to install?

Any recommendation on brand? I was thinking of Panasonic inverter unit 3.5kw.

On another note do I need to get Body Corporate approval to install an air conditioner?

I suggest getting an air con specialist to confirm what size system is needed.

Get the correct size for the volume of the room and factors such as insulation, windows. Ignore people who suggest oversizing the system.

Too small won't cool the room, but if too if big a capacity it will keep cycling on and off and cost much more to use than necessary.

Generally a better deal to get it installed by the supplier.

FWIW, BC approval is most likely required for an apartment complex.

+1 for getting the right size (BTUs) for the area/layout.

I put one in an IP last week. 5.1kw split reverse cycle (18,000BTU) from Kogan. Got my sparky to install it.

Quotes from air con companies $2,800-3k

    Cost me $1200...

In saying that keep an eye out for free install deals from HN. They can be good value, but not usually offered this time of year (summer).

I would tell them no, but......

Yes, get BC go ahead, you will need to know where they propose putting the outside unit, also need to know room size to get right size. Avoid the real cheap made Chinese units.

For an IP remote, I would probably get the selling company to install, no arguments then if there are any stuff ups as they need to sort with installer.

As I have absolutely no idea what to expect regarding installation costs. If you don't mind could you please let me know how much installation was for your unit.

Can anyone please recommend an electrician to install an air conditioner for a unit in Clayfield.
