    Hi,

As above, I require a lawyer to sort out my prenuptial agreement.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Ideally someone who has had to use their lawyer and seen the result.

    Thanks.
    NHG.

The arrangements you make before marriage wont apply after you have had children etc. life happens and circumstances change. I hope you have a long and happy marriage as that is the best way to avoid having to put your prenuptial agreement to the test.

This isn't really true. Children might be a significant change to circumstances, but a BFA can be either updated or contemplate children in the first place.

How would you know whether a BFA drafted by a lawyer was any good?

Unless maybe it was litigated on and you were successful in holding up the validity of it? But even then maybe if it was prepared better it shouldn't have even given rise to an arguably application to set it aside.

Unfortunately I can only recommend family lawyers in WA - not sure in other states.

By that I hope that you don't mean that it's been held up in court.

Also don't forget that a prenup is a contract so it can be a perfectly drafted document but still be set aside for a variety of reasons such as duress

    Thanks for that.
    Any lawyer references?
Non of my lawyer contacts seem to be able to recommend one.
Though they would know of at least 1.

There is a lawyer located where I had my old office at 195 Macquarie st. Level 5 I think. I can't remember his name now but he only does family law and does binding financial agreements

This story sums up what Terry is referring to.

‘My money is for my children’

One recent case involved a rich man who sprung a BFA on his soon to be wife 2 days before the wedding. It was either sign up or wedding cancelled. She was pressured to sign to avoid the embarrassment.

We had an informal prenup. What was hers is hers, and what was mine is hers too.

That was over 21 years ago - knew she was a keeper when she helped me landscape and install ag line drainage on my first property development.

Thanks. I'll give them a call.

I am genuinely surprised at how difficult it has been to get a lawyer recommendation for a pre-nup.
I've been looking for well over a month.

    My fiance is struggling also.
Thought it would be more common practice.

Makes sense my inner circle wouldn't have any, most were married before they had any substantial assets, but even among the more established investors / lawyers I know, it's been like drawing blood from a stone.
