This has been bugging me for a while but has not been important enough to ask. But the OCD in me hopes to know the answer.

I often thought New Posts means brand new posts, whilst Recent Posts mean any recent posts.... However, New Posts always have posts that had been running for pages, so they are not new.....

Please someone shed some light. I’ll be really grateful!

Interestingly, this post was not showing up in New Posts, only recent posts. Let's see if this post changes that.

    Recent is everything posted recently.

New is new to you. Threads with posts that you have not read. Depends on you being logged in.

    I think.

“New” includes threads that I have seen in the past, but with new replies, plus some others which seem to be picked randomly. But surely there should be a criteria...

My this post turned up as Recent Post, not New Post.....o_O

A thread you just posted in is not new, because you've obviously read it if you posted in it.

Of course, once someone else replies - it will be new again until you read their reply.

There's nothing random about the posts that are included in New posts - if you haven't read the thread since there were new posts made in it - then that thread will appear in New posts.
