Is there a difference between the Recent Posts and New Posts links? Looks like they return the same results!

Reading a New Post will remove it from the New Post list until another New Post is added to that thread.

Yes, New Posts is specifically those posts you have not yet personally read - the system keeps track of which threads you have read.

If someone posts in a thread after you read it, it will show up in the New Posts search once more.

If you read all the threads or click the "Mark Forums Read" button then no posts will show up in the New Posts search - until someone posts again.

Note that posting in a thread yourself does not make a thread appear in your own New Posts search - because the system considers it to be already read by you if you just posted. This confuses people sometimes when they make a new post but then don't see it show up in the New Posts search.

The Recent Posts search is the better place to find the thread you recently posted in.

The Recent Posts search will show all threads which have been updated within the past 24 hours, regardless of whether you have read them or not.
