Listened recently to a rep from this company speaking about the listings placements on the site. As most of you would know, the most recent listings come up first on the site. So, for example, if you are looking for units for sale in a particular suburb, the ones that pop up first on the list are the most recently listed. However, I have heard that REA's have been pulling stale listings at the end of the month from the site and "relisting" them to achieve higher status once again in the placements.
According to this rep, this used to happen but now no longer does, as they have tightened their controls in this section and are not allowing it. What this means is that the properties you see on the regular list are now the genuine new listings. He did admit that it's not foolproof, as some agents may "slip through the cracks" and successfully relist but most have been recognised and are attempting to stamp it out altogether.
Thought this might be of interest to those who rely on the site for their regular trawls :)
