About 2 years ago I noticed that somebody kept coming onto my rural property. There were obvious signs, like things moved around, fireplace changed etc. I was never at the property at the same time to the challenge my unexpected visitor.

I've just discovered in the last few days that the local real estate agent, who had the listing for the neighboring block, got confused and showed buyers onto my block instead. My neighbor bought the neighboring block, thinking it was the block he had been shown by the agent (ie, my block).

He's been visiting for about two years, which coincides with when I noticed things moving around.

My neighbor is very embarrassed, but happy with his 'new' block that he's actually owned for 2 years. All was well and civil, but I don't think he'll be showing his face any time soon.

Surely a real estate agent would normally go to the property they are listing with the vendor and work out where it is?

My main question is are there any loose ends I need to tie up? I think it's all sorted and can't think of anything I need to do. Obviously I will be purchasing a more prominent sign and a gate....

How did the agent get copies of your keys?

Perhaps you should have waited a little longer until he had made some improvements on your property .......

There might have been a street number change years ago when possibly the block was split or subdivided, make sure you have the current block number on your insurance policy, not the one on the letter box.

Not as bad as a builder building a house on the wrong block of land

Friends of mine are putting in a dam right now on their property. I wonder what would have happened if he'd paid for and installed a dam on your property?

    Omg, nuts

I had insurance company come out to repair one of my properties, however they repaired the neighbours house instead, a verandah, it was vacant as it was their beach house.

    Unreal

Yep, I had people ready to put a new garage door on my house. Walked out and asked what they were doing. Damn.,.they were supposed to be a few houses down. 27, not 21.

    Crazy, how this happens

In Perth some years ago now. Someone build a house on the wrong block. It did not go down too well, someone got a free home

I remember that! It was around the same time! Bonus! My Neighbours were both at work and told the guys they’d leave the garage door unlocked so they were going for it and thought the 7 was a 1 on work order.

That's datto that's a really good idea, we did actually have somebody near by go to prison for some creative gardening a few years ago.

When I was at uni we studied a case where a builder built on the wrong block and they didn't become aware until the completion. Forget the name of it now
