i can seem to be able to get comfortable while reading. So i sit for a little bit, walk for a little bit, lie down for a bit and i feel like my mind is always distracted from the book due to not being comfortable...

How do you guys go on reading comfortably?
What is your most comfortable position?
Do you use a recliner chair, do you read lying down or walking...?

How are you dispersing the weight of your body onto whatever you're lying/resting on? What sort of chair or bed are you currently using that's giving you aches and pains?

Walk into an Officeworks with your book, look the greeter in the eye and with a firm handshake ask "Can you give me a hand finding a comfy ergonomic office chair?"
    Problem solved!

A general outdoor dining chair is what I find perfect. It's upright enough, and with armrests. Very comfortable.
Otherwise, in a 'study' setting with the book on the desk in front of me.

@Safe As Houses , i feel a lot of tension around my upper neck and lower back which is mostly due to looking down on my books i think so i've been trying to get my books on a straight level with my eyesight which seems to help a bit.

I did checkout officeworks but none of their chairs felt comfy as i still felt that i was looking down. I'm leaning towards trying one of those leather recliners with a footrest/armrest

I have a reading chair. Eames Lounge and ottoman. Expensive, though - think of it as an investment. Mine is worth more than I paid for it in the late 80s.

Mate, I'll you what, I want to splurge about $6000 and get one of those Japanese massage chairs! Have you seen them? They're absolutely fantastic and are great to read in. They're usually being advertised/sold in shopping centres. Ask for a sit in one and take your book with you. Give it a shot!

Depends - for relaxation reading I recline - for work reading a sit in an ergonomic office chair and keep myself awake with copious buckets of tea and procrastination walks

Has this always been the case for you, or a recent thing?
Generally, seat position/comfort does not impact my ability to concentrate on reading - for eg, yesterday I spent 4 hours in transit on a ferry, bus, bus, train, and was able to read in uncomfortable seats most of the way :)
What does make it difficult for me to concentrate on reading is if I have a food reaction to certain things - MSG is one that can have a significant effect on me, but there are other food chemicals that if I have too much of can be an issue - like salicylates.

    Cheers,
    Inertia

@inertia , yup, it has always been the case.
I've always had tight neck/shoulders muscles which i've been working on so maybe fixing that would help.

Cheers for the Chairs suggestions guys, will have a look.

I need to be as uncomfortable as possible when I read. If I get myself comfy I fall asleep before I finish the first page, regardless of how awake or interesting the book is.

I've always been the same, I only have two modes, on or off. I can rarely get through a movie in one hit without falling asleep and books take me an eternity to get through, hard to get more than a few pages at a time in without nodding off.

I'd love to find a way to be able to actually relax, just sit peacefully, enjoy a book or a show and enjoy the stillness without always entering standby mode.

Highly recommend any of the zero gravity chairs - which unfortunately are not cheap. However you can test it out by getting one of the zero gravity camping chairs and see how you like it then invest in one from Gumtree or new.

House & Home Stackable Zero Gravity Chair

Recline is to zero gravity and you may find it perfect for reading - or will at least give your back/neck/shoulders some relief.

If you like that then you upgrade to something a bit comfier Zero Gravity Chair - the Perfect Sitting Position for Maximum Comfort

@Ted Varrick , I'm jumping between a few books at the moment but been concentrating on

Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid

Brilliant read but requires a lot of focus and concentration.

i dont read but my wife does.

we have stressless, which we got for her because the chair is sized best get one for each member of the family.

for my self im more a himolla kinda guy, i use it to watch tv.

they do the same thing which is they wrap around you on your weight there is no leaver or anything like that, so its awesome, hence sizing is important.

for the family lounge we have recaro's.

im sure stressless is the easiest one to get here in australia and u can try before you buy in shops.

as for Eames Lounge Chair no offence as chairs can be personal, i find them more of a design piece than an ergonomic piece.

herman miller aeron on the other hand.. The best office chair. Period

@Ted Varrick , I've read many Nassim Taleb articles and chapters of his books that interested me but haven't had a chance to read his books in their entirety yet ...

After finishing with GEB, I want to read some of Richard Feynmans' books and then Nassim Taleb's work should be next!

    I only read in bed.
The Missus has dozens upon dozens of photos of me deep asleep in various positions with both book & reading glasses in complete disarray.
The kids think the photos are hilarious.

I just struggle to find where I was up to the next night when I pick the bloody thing up again.
