    Yes, I'm very moving.

Unfortunately, Central Coast isn't a city, so it doesn't count in the index ;-)

The index takes several things into account:
    .Purchasing power
    .House prices relative to income
    .Cost of living
    .Safety
    .Health
    .Traffic time
    .Pollution
    .Climate

Canberra doesn't have a good climate index as compared to other cities, but makes up in other areas.

Central Coast would rate well on climate, pollution and house prices. It would be similar to other places on purchasing time, worse on traffic time (for people who commute) and health (being further away on average from hospital.

If it wasn't for the winter climate in can't, we wouldn't be moving.

Apart from winter weather, absolutely. I like being able to drive anywhere easily, I love being close to the bush.

We will be moving close to Newcastle, yet far enough away that we don't have to put up with it ;-)

Im assuming Melbourne, Victoria, would be about 500th, amongst afghanistan or pyongyang, at this point in time

To be fair, I could quite happily live in Canberra - surrounded by mountain bike areas, and close proximity to the high country, I would be very happy! I wasn't able to convince my wife to move there though.

    cheers,
    Inertia.

Very happy in Canberra (25 years) after Sydney and then Hobart. I would be nice if winter night time temps were a bit higher but many other things outweigh this. The secret is that you need to live here and connect to local groups rather than visiting.

PS You won't come across too many (if any) pollies.

We've had nearly 30 winters in the Canberra region. But as one gets a little older, one's tolerance to cold decreases. My wife's joints especially aren't getting any better. 5º-10º higher temperatures sounds great - as do the cooler summer evenings with the sea breeze.

I must admit that for most of the past 10 years we have "escaped" to Europe for 2 or 3 months over winter. My partner works (sabbaticals etc) and has a couple of weeks of holiday while I escape for most of the time to walk in the mountains or cycle tour once my bag carrying abilities are no longer needed. I did a great deal with my employer that allowed me to take a term off each year without pay (if I wanted).
