It's an expanded Chanticleer article based on Qsuper's stated aims here:

    QSuper's investment strategy in action

He compares their approach with a similar one taken by the Future Fund.

I'm intrigued by the way it seems to outperform in down and flat years.

I’m with QSuper. Joined when I became eligible for superannuation when working for Education Queensland.

It’s not the most exciting fund, but very steady and reliable.

That's interesting, thank you. Has the AFR covered their actual performance as against their stated aims?

It’s only been the last few years that QSuper has been open to all.

Before that, membership was restricted to Queensland public servants, extended some time ago to “spouses”.

So I doubt there is much research done yet.

Just thought I'd update this as I've been doing the usual end of year analysis of my investments.

It is annoyingly hard to get comparable results for super funds (as opposed to diversified funds such as Vanguard) but it seems QSuper did indeed perform better than their peers in the midst of the March slump, falling only 3.1% for the quarter and ranking Number 2 according to Super Ratings.

They haven't recovered as well as some, however. The emphasis on infrastructure (notably airports) wasn't, in retrospect, that wise. And they've missed out on the tech bubble.

How your super fund is faring on the COVID-19 tightrope

Read the PDS. QSuper is a fund. Within the fund there will be categories of investment choice eg capital stable, cash etc may not have infrstructure at ALL in their portfolio mix
