[QLD] Housing Legislation Amendment Bill 2021

Has anyone else seen anything about this proposed bill yet?

I've only just heard, but submissions for comment are closing 12:00pm on Tuesday 13 July 2021.

The Queensland Government has recently introduced the Housing Legislation Amendment Bill 2021 to the Queensland Parliament with proposed changes including:

Limit rent increases to once every 24 months and by no more than CPI per year, including if there is a period for which the property is not rented or if current tenants move out and new tenants enter on a new lease.

Remove the ability to accept rent bids from propspective tenants.

Allow tenants to make minor modifications to a rental property without obtaining the owner's consent.

Let tenants keep a pet unless the owner seeks an exemption from gov on 'reasonable grounds'.

Ensure certain inclusions in regulations made regarding miniumum standards for rental homes.

Change lease security by removing the ability for "no grounds" evictions or evictions for sale contract by the owner and replacing these provisions with two new grounds for a notice to leave, being:

1) Occupation by the owner or owner's close relative, or 2) Major renovations

From my point of view at least, the Queensland government is basically asking landlords by this coming Tuesday to "Let us know what you think about how we are making things much worse for you with no upside".
