    Hi,

I'm looking at purchasing or building a duplex, as a owner occupier, live in one unit whilst renting out the other unit.

If I purchase an existing duplex and live in it, can I allocate a portion of the purchase towards tax?

If I build a duplex and live in it, can I still allocate a portion of the land purchase and building costs towards tax? Also, Is there a huge chunk of tax incentives I will miss out on if I purchase a Full Turn Key package?

What about ongoing costs to the whole property, can I allocate a portion of the costs towards tax? From council rates to general maintenance.

Is there anything else I need to be aware of regarding duplexes.

    Thanks,

    J

Are you looking one title or two titles?

most people here refer a duplex as 2 attached dwellings on seperate title. In Logan they are mostly "dual income" properties. These dual income properties are on ONE title.
The duplex will have not problem, even though you hate attached with a common wall you're still arms reach.
As for dual income, it's doable just that you need to have few discussions with your accountant ....

Thanks all for your feedback !

I'm not entirely sure what the differences will be.
