Well done to @Simon Hampel, his supportive moderators and his supportive family.

I'm astounded at how much bigger this has become since SS days.

It really doesn’t - I still remember the feeling of panic when I heard that SS was closing! Turned out just fine :)

Unlikely - they were kind of meaningless and a source of friction when some people started soliciting kudos.

Perhaps if I could come up with a more meaningful measure of community value, I might implement that. Will have to spend some time thinking about it - added that to my TODO list.

    User status

    upload_2018-6-18_21-54-55.png

    • Valid: account is fully active and the user can post (this number is shown as the "total users" count you see in the sidebar)
    • Invalid: account is suspended because the user either has not confirmed their email address, or emails sent to them have bounced back as undeliverable
    • Banned: account has been disabled because the user was either banned for spamming, or banned for rule violations. Note the percentage doesn't show on the pie chart - it is 1.2% of total user registrations.
    • Removed: accounts have been purged from the database because they were either invalid or banned and never posted. Purges happen only periodically, so over time more of the invalid and banned (because of spam) users will be removed.

Note that the total number of banned members who have made 1 or more posts (ie they weren't banned for spamming - because all posts by spammers are automatically removed) = 59 or 0.4% of total user registrations.

It's been a great transition which goes to explain why so many of us old timers are around. Thanks for all the hard work Sim.

Pretty low. Although those banned users generated more than 1.2% of the workload for mods ;)

Well, spam users are really easy to clean up ... so it's actually the 0.4% of users who generate the most workload! :p
