Never had it before but considering private health insurance for the 1st time as a couple that may have an income this financial year over the $180k threshold & don't want to get stung with extra tax for no reason. Personally, I see health insurance as a waste of money. If you've got an emergency, you go to a public hospital, I don't think you can go to a private hospital at midnight as it would be closed...at least you can't with our local one. The only thing that might be of benefit is if seeing a number of specialists, the health insurance gives you more than what Medicare give back.

Does anyone have a recommendation for the best insurance broker to go through? Eg. iSelect. Also which insurance companies are good to stick with and which ones are ones to keep away from? What type of yearly fees are people here paying for insurance?

Also dental isn't necessary at all as have extended family working as a dentist and can get this all done for free.

Would Ambulance only cover be enough to get out of getting stung with a Medicare Levy Surcharge?

    Search

This is the govt site for comparing policies, apparently iselect only has 8 or so providers (presumably the ones willing to pay fees).
    enjoy...

Only brands under the same insurer head company so it doesn't cover all options.

    No, ambulance cover doesn't suffice.

You need at least hospital cover.

This topic (avoiding the levy and preferred insurers) has been thoroughly discussed on this site in the last few months - try a search on the site.
