We recently stayed at a CMCA (Camping Association) camp in Qld.
While checking in the asked if we had had Covid. I asked what happens if you gave had it.
They stated that we would not be allowed to stay. I also asked why they don't ask if you had be been vaccinated to which they said they are not allowed to ask.

So my question is- is asking if you have previously had Covid an invasion of your privacy?
So if you've had it you will be discriminated against for the rest of your life?

I couldn't find any information. Everything was on the rights of vaccinations.
    Interested to hear peoples thoughts.

    That's a bit of a curly one.

Can ask if someone has had an illness, but can't ask if they've been vaccinated?

I'm not sure that's entirely consistent.

(PS - I've changed the thread title slightly to better represent the content of your post)

    Yes.
But is it an acceptable invasion? I don't know - or care really.

Is it relevant? The only thing that should matter is if you current have it.

Apparently there's a new court challenge in NSW - is the provision of proof of vaccination prejudicial and impinges upon your right to silence or self-incrimination?

I thought self-incrimination only applies if you've been arrested.

Sounds like they've got their regulations mixed up. They can ask if you've got symptoms or visited any hotspots (not that there is any way to tell if you're lying) but not a history ... they can also ask to see your vax cert which shows nothing that isn't already on your drivers licence (and, in fact, a lot less detail)

On the ABC news site recently there's an interesting article posing the question of are mandatory vaccinations a violation of human rights? I think it's written by a law professor.

In laymans terms it appears to boil down to the human rights charter states that the decision to opt in or out of a medical proceedure is human right. You can't force someone else to take a medical proceedure against their will. A vaccination is a medical proceedure.

Therefore it follows that the government can't madate that people must have the vaccine. No doubt some will try to use this.

However if you simply rest on this, IMO you're missing a vital link. The government isn't mandating that people must have the vaccine, they've clearly stated many times that it is optional. What they have madated is that certain industries and people in certain roles must be vaccinated against COVID 19 and possibly other illnesses.

Nobody is madating that you must be vaccinated, the mandate is that to be employed in certain roles, you must be vaccinated.

I'm certainly no expert on the charter of human rights, but I suspect that it doesn't cover employment conditions. Likewise I don't think it covers your ability to visit retail shops, restraunts or other people's homes. Therefore the government's vaccine mandates at this time are not a violation of human rights.

Seems to me that not being allowed to ask about whether a person is vaccinated is like not asking whether a person planning to drive your car has a drivers licence. Personally, I will ask about the vaccine status of anybody coming to my home to do work or if I will be receiving some sort of treatment from them.

I’m inclined to not ask whether someone is vaccinated or not because it doesn’t indicate whether they are carrying the virus or not. You can be double vaccinated and positive, conversely you could be unvaccinated and completely healthy.
I think everyone would be better informed if all homes had rapid antigen test kits, where you know if someone is sick or not in 15 minutes, especially if you test everyday and build up a record of negative results.
Even now if you are double vaccinated and want to pay a visit to your dentist, they require you to go and get a test.

Rapid antigen tests must be administered by a trained professional in Australia.

I don't know the cost, but daily tests would cost a lot - and even then, if self administered (which is not allowed here anyway) you would have to rely on the honesty of the people. "Sin, my test is positive and I need to go to the pub, can you take this test for me?". Witness the number of people with Covid who haven't been checking in or remaining isolated.

Vaccinated people, while able to be infected, are far less likely to be infected, and even if they are, are much less likely to have a viral load which enables spreading.

Vaccination isn't perfect. But if it's combined with other precautions like hand sanitising, masks and social distancing, can be very effective.

We do rapid antigen tests every time we visit my mums nursing home. I have done 4 in the last week. The test kit is handed to us at the front door and we do self administer it. After about 20 minutes someone checks the test result, takes out temp, checks we have been double vaxed, checked into both the NSW covidsafe and the organisations sites. If we are carrying anything into the building its sprayed with Glen20. The tests cost us $7 each.

It appears that the tests aren't available for testing at home yet, but will be by November 1.

They aren't being used at the aged care facility I visited today, I've no idea how widespread it is.

In Singapore, they cost $10 each, but substantially more in the US and UK. Even at $7, many would be reluctant to have daily tests

It would be interesting to see how they monitor which person is being tested. Dishonesty could be a major negative for their use.

But I believe they should be an adjunct to vaccination, not a substitute.

Nope - been to my dentist today, checked in, vax cert & temp check.

A few weeks ago, yes a negative test was required to see a specialist & the dentist was only seeing urgent cases.

    Thsnks for the replies.
There is a lot of info about vacinations and I am not seeking info on that.

My post is about the fact that they asked if we had ever had Covid and then stated we could not stay if we had had Covid.

What are the implications if this? Are businesses going to discriminate against anybody that has had Covid?

Having had had COVID is like if you have been vaccinated…Bc your body would produce natural antibodies to the virus. So why would they discriminate you ? It’s rather a silly question to ask, they should be able to ask are you vaccinated because in NSW that’s what we ask.
If your answer is you haven’t had COVID ,…well that doesn’t tell them anything about whether you are vaccinated or not.

That doesn’t seem right. I’d say it’s even crazy.

We need to end this witch hunt the sooner the better. As it’s been mentioned rapid testing is probably the best option of those available - do the test if required which is used as a go no go measure irrespective of the vaccination status, previous illnesses, etc.

That seems like a ridiculous thing for the manager to ask you. I would ask them right back if they have had a STI. For heaven's sake, having had a past infection does not mean that the person is currently infectious. I was camping in a Qld park last month and they asked us if we had been in a declared covid hotspot within the previous 14 days.

A man in Gold Coast hospital unable to speak is letting his old Facebook posts do the talking for him. No privacy at all.

I don't think privacy concerns rate as highly as worry over public health.

I wouldn't want to be him, not only cos he is very unwell, but he is not going to live this down if he survives.
