When we bought the house it had a sloping back yard with quite a hodge podge of trees and plants . Made for a fairly modest amount of usable back yard space. We have removed all of that and have put in a retaining wall , leveled out the yard quite a bit so that the slope is now quite gentle, and turfed it.

Much cleaner look. Far more spacious/usable yard space. And given that we back on to a state forest and there is no shortage of foliage already in place, we wont miss the hodge podge of trees and plants. We will be planting ?? along the rear fence line though for screening /privacy purposes as there are walking trails to the back of the property.

Looks good! Will you fence the retaining wall to prevent kids falling off the end when chasing the footy?

Unnecessary... I wanted it. Wife didnt. But its not a true wet area per se, so I decided it was an unnecessary risk to my well being to pursue that argument... :)

That thing weighs 37KG. Because of the location above the stairs, and the height of the chandelier, access is very tricky. So would you believe we opted to put that thing on a chandelier lift to get it up and down for any maintenance or cleaning... ?

It means we can drop it down to floor level with the touch of a button... switch out any globes or dust it off, and then lift it back up with the touch of a button.

Just far too tricky with a ladder... would need a scissor lift or scaffolding to access it if we hadnt installed the chandelier lift

We have a chandelier in our Brisbane PPOR (now IP), fairly basic with ball type shades. We needed to change the light bulbs and DH rented the biggest ladder he could get from Kennards, then put it on the actual stairs(not the floor) to change the bulbs(we had a similar drop)! Lucky we put in long life bulbs!

A lift is a great idea!

D is a braver man that U.... I wouldnt want to be 4-5 metres up, balancing on a ladder that isnt flat on the ground :) Especially with 18 x small edison screw LED bulbs to fit/replace/clean.

Do you have a pool blanket yet to keep the leaves out of the pool?
