Most common practice these days is to lay a yellow tongue floor 19mm lower than the height of your finished floor level. Once your roof is on, come back and lay the t&g on top of the yellow tongue. Food for thought on your 2nd floor.

    Cheers,
    Clint.

Thanks. Unfortunately the floor boards are going straight onto the joists. So theres no yellow tongue any where.

    Its a good idea though.

I could put up the joists. Then screw down some spare roofing iron to the joists and then work off that to finish the framing and do the actual roof. I think that could work.

No the wife is helping me

My brother in law has chipped in 3 days so far and my dad has chipped in 2 days. But yeah besides that we are doing it all. In fact my wife is puttying the floor as we speak. Im sitting in air con at work :)

My dad is helpful though. He has built places before so Ill ring him with random questions all the time when I get stuck.

    No Im a childrens counsellor.

But Ive done a fair few renos and random diy jobs now. I raised the original house and built in under that. Pretty much the only job I havent done now is building a roof from scratch. So that will be a learning experience.

Sanded and sealed a quick coat on the floor to try and protect the floor from all this damn rain we have been having lately. It has 5 small palm sized spots where the rain hit a few hours later and bubbled the coating so Ill have to sand those spots back. But the main thing is now its sealed so it wont get mouldy or go black from the metal filing sitting on it from previous grinding etc... 20160309_081345.jpg

Be careful of that! Did you put the tarps on when dry? Water trapped underneath is no good!

Love to build you a roof.... I'd use those tarps and rope ;)

Yeah we managed to get the floor relatively dry before putting down the tarps.

Unfortunately its just a awkward spot in the build right now. Will be very nice when its weather tight.

Tell me about it I was supposed to have my timber tuesday. Will have to get onto them.

To put the roof on I need to build half the house.
