I might be blind but haven't noticed if there was an easy way to tell which posters had higher "green squares" like the ones on Somersoft. I suppose it sometimes gave posts more weight as it gave the poster more "reputation". Any chances of bringing a similar system in? Maybe we can have stars or little house icons.

There isn't, and I think that's a good thing. More of them seemed to be granted for funny / smart ass comments than for actual helpful stuff.

There's a Like here, on the bottom of each post if you like the comment. Clicking on someone's profile will show how many they have.

Completely agree. And some people were getting outrageous amounts of kudos for being complete ****-***s. Just because someone else with a lot of kudos was egging them on. (not me, of course.)

The problem with relying on a system like 'kudos' or 'likes' is it becomes an automatic way to judge the value of one member over another and people don't put it into context.

If person A has 100 points and person B has 50 points, is person A a better contributor than person B?

What if person A has written 5,000 posts and person B has only written 100? This would imply that person A occasionally has something useful to say, but generally they just post a lot and most of it is probably just noise, a lot of it might even be really bad advice.. Person B doesn't post much, but when they do, they're worth listening too.

People should take a look at the history of what people are saying before they pass positive or negative judgement on someone. I don't think there's any way the software can rank members in a way that can't be exploited. Unfortunately that simply isn't human nature; the loudest people are always those who are most heard.

It would be good for the likes to be a ratio - ie 'likes' divided by posts. That would even the playing field and make it a more useful measure.

Perhaps judge each post on its merit regardless of who posts it.

    Everyone has their moments.

Would that then discourage people (particularly those with businessess related to property) from getting involved in non-property or non-serious conversations though?

I don't think so - as mentioned above, plenty of people get likes for fun stuff - unless you're insinuating business people aren't fun? :p

I'd suggest keeping that stuff tucked away so people aren't judging posters based on how big their bar is...

That brings me to another suggestion .

Outside like and dislike buttons , has anyone suggested a " Groan " button .

Oh , that could be taken a couple of ways .

I'm talking about a dad joke type groan . Though I think GeoffW would be hands down winner , so maybe it's not necessary .

Haha - the competition wouldn't even be close! You could just call it the GeoffW button :)

The competition would be for second place . I think I'd be in with a shot for that .

I think I'd give Geoff a run , but I do have a habit of writing posts , reviewing them , thinking .... Ooooh , I'm going to sound like Geoff .... And then deleting them
