... and with increasing automation, it's not like labour costs anywhere in the world are really an issue anymore. It's more about electricity costs nowadays

I was reading something on the weekend (ABC website) about what Australian general health dept's plan will be ....

I love the bit about telling all of us who have jobs to stay home in self-quarantine for two weeks if we get a sore throat, a cough and a runny nose. I am getting myself 20 litres of fresh interior house paint and looking forward to the next kid who snots all over me. Bring it on!

They might show even better value after the jobs data for February and March and even possibly April are released, plus lots of other data being released over the next month or two..

Interesting comparing the New case growth country to country . Plotted the growth on new cases in some of the key countries since it escaped from China

Japan is the stand out . Seems to be staying under 20 / day with no doubling in new cases every so often which has been the situation in Korea , Iran and Italy .

Germany and France seem to be getting more rapid growth in new cases so might be in for a rough time . How UK compares will be interesting , being an island etc but it's behind the trend compared with France / Germany

It's too early to see the trend in Australia at this stage . We've had our first in house cases in the last 2-3 days and now it appears to be in a Sydney nursing home , so expecting deaths there ( one possible already ) . The key thing for us will be what happens in the next week . In a weeks time will we be keeping the new cases at a level rate or will it be doubling every 2-3 days ?

I'd expect a doubling in the next 2-3 days but the 4-5 days after that might be key to seeing how widespread it already is without being detected by testing in low risk people ( ie people who fall outside the current guidelines.

    That's assuming they don't keep falling ...

Be very wary at the moment . I think the Fed reserve have fired too much too soon . A bit like launching an artillery bombardment when the opposition are still manoeuvring in the background out of range IMHO . It was done purely to try to change market sentiment and given the much worse news that will come out in the next weeks , months , it's an empty gesture , BUT , shows how fixated the US admin in on " the Market " rather than the real world .

Western countries, including Australia have a 'tread gently' approach. Most Asian countries on the other hand are very much 'this is what we're doing, and you'll like it'. We should have sealed our borders 2 weeks ago.

In medium term, I reckon there'll be less of an economic fallout compared to this thing starts spreading like rabbits.

Yep - unless you're in the unlucky 2.3% that are under 60 ... but assume they had underlying health issues or couldn't get treatment

Given that baby boomers are currently in the 55-75 year old bracket, and the mortality rate jumps significantly the older you get - the conspiracy theorists may make a link there and suggest that this has been genetically engineered to target boomers

Would actually solve quite a few problems we have with an ageing population

I'm going to call this Boomervirus from now on :p

Millennials - now is your chance to get into the property market - make sure you go visit your boomer parents / grand parents :D

I've worked hard for the last 35 years so I can have a very pleasant retirement , and if any of the millennials I work with don''t take this seriously , I'll probably kill them ...

Data out of China show 50 onward is the sweet spot, if you get it from 50 on your chance of dying is a lot higher

Why more people in their 50s get the virus

UK also reported a big jump today , and they'd been tracking better than France and Germany , so it does seem to be tricky to contain .

Just got our first case on the northern beaches "The insular peninsular"
