The pool cleaner head in my IP has broken. Swimart via my PM said that they would not recommend spending on repairing as the unit is too old and could break down again, and instead suggested replacing with a new Swimkleen ATV Pool Cleaner that costs a grand and comes with 7 years warranty.

I am not sure if I should accept this as they called a long-term solution or insist on a cheaper option of repair for the sake of short-term cash flow?

    What would be your call?

How old is the vacuum? How much longer do you think it will last if you fix it? Can you get one one ebay, gumbytree etc is that a cheaper option?

I know it's one of the older models but am not sure how many years it is old and whether it can still last if fixed. We have never used the swimming pool ourselves since we bought the house in 2014 so can't tell for sure.

Thank for your suggestion re. eBay - I did take a look and see there are cheaper options. Though, the issue is whether the repair is straightforward so we can ask the tenant to do it and we reimburse them. For now our PM can only assist with the said option to use her contracted pool man's offer of upgrading the whole unit .

Thanks @Otie. That's may be what we might have to take eventually.

Is it one of the property myths? :) To be serious, the pool was one factor that helped us secure a good long term tenant at the time but I agree it adds maintenance costs.

Liability risk, eg if one of the kids injures themselves or drowns you're responsibility.
Lots of arguments about standards of maintaining it etc
Expensive to fill in when it comes time to redevelop property.

Its not a huge issue by any means, just take all the steps to protect yourself and ensure everyone knows everyone's rights and obligations.

I have a pool and the so called automated goldplated ATV is just a expensive option. Go to Bunnings and buy a $200-$250 "automated" pool cleaner eg : . Ensuring you have correct length hoses (?) it will be as effective and save a mint.

Forget repair of the old unit. They deteriorate with UV and water !! I would only buy the more deluxe unit if you were living there. Its just another thing for tenants to misuse, break or steal.

Thanks @Paul@PFI and @mikey7. I emailed PM about the $200 unit from Bunnings a few days ago but have not heard back from her since then. Hope this is not because she isn't willing to take additional work other than following what their expensive contractor has offered.

If she won't do it.. you can have it delivered from the local Bunnings to your IP.
My mates 3 year old figured out how to put it together! So your tenants should be fine..

I am going to tag along as it is related to Pool cleaner (not in IP).

Does anyone have any opinion or have uswd this cleaner:-https://poolandspawarehouse.com.au/pentair-rebel-pool-cleaner.html

Currently we have "The Pool Cleaner" and due to the age etc. All hoses needs replacent and when I took to pool shop the guy said the unit is end of life as bearing or bushes have play etc...i do know that it struggles a bit and to replair that and buy new hose set etc. Will cost approx $350-$400...instead buy new one with full long term warranty.

It sounded like sales pitch but I do believe there is no point in spending on repair when new unit can be for under $600.

Also, the existing pool cleaner have vwry sticky wheels and avcording to pool guy, when shock the pool the cleaner might have been inside etc. As previous owner always used 1-2 drum of chlorine a week. But we put the chlorinator.

We do have gum trees around so something good to suck leaves and climb walls.

    Any info be helpful
