Hi Brains Trust. We put in a new kitchen about 15 years ago and last week one of the sheets of vinyl wrap lifted off. All the other surfaces are still good.

Mr Angel tried to glue it back but tore it, so the sheeting is not reusable. After several calls and visits to various cabinetry places, we cant find anywhere that will replace one cabinet door to match all the others.

It is Caraway Matt, in limited supply on the company website. They will not deal directly with the public and one localish cabinet company has called back stating it is not available in the vinyl wrap. They have suggested we repaint all the existing doors and drawer fronts in matching colour to the uprights. Mr Angel wants to do this, it will take him about a week. I think it is a terrible amount of time and labour, but he cant bring himself to pay for all new doors and drawers. We would have to remove the doors and hardware, remove the vinylwrap, sand and do several coats of epoxy and two pack and sanding and whatever.

Your suggestions please @Westminster @wylie and the other renovation wizards.

I can currently live with one panel of MDF but we intend renting out our home in six months' time so it has to be in good condition for when we are interstate next year. I dont want to have to deal with a kitchen reno when we are absent or have tenants in place.

I had this done for my troublesome tenant (Little Old Lady AKA mum).

Found a small joinery shop who was prepared to remove all 40 odd vinyl wrapped doors, drawer faces, cornice, skirting, end panels, labelled each door/panel for location, stripped, sanded, filled and had the auto panel shop did 2 pack spray finish to the doors & trims.

New hinges were the only new items.

About 60-70% of the cost of replacing the doors alone. Had 2 quotes for replacement.

Can you swap the damaged door with another ice and then make a feature of say just two doors somewhere?

I don't know easy it would be to remove all the vinyl wrap from the other doors, let alone sand and repaint the lot.

I did that with a solid pine kitchen several years back and it came up beautifully, but it took me a long time (because I also did minimum two coats on the insides as well).

Are the other doors likely to follow suit and peel?

Another option might be to order one door vinyl wrapped to replace the door rather than getting the door re-wrapped. Thankfully it's not a white door because you'll never get a good match.

    I thought as much.

We have agreed to set aside a few days to strip and then paint all the doors and drawer fronts.
