Don't call pregnant women 'expectant mothers' as it might offend transgender people, BMA says


I'm scientifically offended. Surely "mother" is the correct name for the person who is actually pregnant. Everyone else involved, such as the father, can still be expecting to become a parent shortly. But it is the mother who is carrying the baby and who will deliver it.

In surrogacy, you have a biological mother and a biological father. Biology, folks. No other bodies are involved.

While we are at it, shall we change the name of Sydney to Melbourne, so that no one who lives in Melbourne can be offended because they aren't Sydneysiders.

Last year my team at work was given the Qld Govt's booklet about gender-neutralism in our workplaces, along with a sensitivity talk about the transgender children in Year 7 and 8. Twelve year olds and apparently there are three of them, although someone mentioned last week that one has left. We support "students under the banner of Special Education", we are to be on the lookout for any bullying these students may experience, intervene sensitively and report it. All well and good, except we are not allowed to know the identities of the students who will potentially be bullied.
