Thats why i always always use Airtasker ,

Airtasker is the uber of trades

Yes. $ 898 sounds expensive but ... your friend must if agreed to that type of mixer ??

Dont pay the bill is the answer and lodge a complaint for mediation thru the Dept of Fair twading

Australian Standards require PEX style pipes , not be installed in direct sunlight

Any advise to not pay the bill is NOT good advise
any issues should be first addressed with the plumber

old mates $25 Bunnings mixers will not come with a 15 year warrantee

    Call out fee $140
    3.5 hours $350
    mixers X 2 $400

    Hose **** $10
$40 fittings and extra pipework under sink

    = $940 plus GST $ 94 = $1034

find a good trusted trades men listen to them , pay them well
and hold on to them , take an interest in their work

Don't be like the OP who seems to be an after the fact albert

Get an itemised invoice before refusing to pay.
A top end mixer is not cheap , and did the plumber have to go and source a mixer from Tradelink or Bunnings , the customer pays for that as well , in time, ,most will charge over $100 p/h.
Most use flexible hoses these days and you would pay a premium to get copper installed , although there has been multiple isssues with flexible pipes failing and can cause considerable damage, especially in 2nd/multi storey buildings, but they are a lot cheaper and can be fitted in less time with less equipment required.
But to have high pressure pipework installed that is out of sight, and in many cases hidden from view with a 10 year warranty (flexi pipe) is ******** , especially when you consider many homes are 20 years old +++++.
Was it a large company that done the work , there may be confusion between the quote requested by the OP and the actual work done by the plumber, especially if the plumber sends his paperwork to the office staff and then they reconcile it with the work that was requested, and assume that was done as well.
Some tradies can be useless at paperwork , especially if the person that requested the work is not there to oversee the job.

A job around the corner from mine was built 7 years ago and is currently having the copper pipes replaced as it has sprung pin holes in it in inaccessible areas. They have to rip out all of the plaster in the whole house to replace so it is a total refit. Cost, $7m

7m seems a bit high even to have all the plaster replaced!

It isn't just plaster. The house has been ruined by the leaks, marble plaster, marble, framing, joinery needs replacing. This isn't a normal suburban house though, it is a Toorak mansion

which is why context is an important issue here.

While we have no real data on what has actually been supplied or done, its not uncommon for some of my clients on our services to get similar feedback/advice from well meaning friends or relos............. the intent is good, the reality quite damaging.
