Health & Family Please work out my dental insurance

I know theres a lot of smart people on here , can you tell me how to work out how much I get back

Im with HCF health insurance Topcover , i went to the dentist the other day he said I need 3 Root Canal treatments he said about $6000 plus

I nearly fainted

I rang up HCF and the lady is asking me , what is the item number ????

I said its for Root canal x 3 she said i need an item number ?

I said just tell me how much i get back, she said about $550 !!!

I said your joking right !

Would it be cheaper for me to go to Thailand ???

 

Is the topcover for hospital or for ancillaries/extras like dental.

Ring back your dentist and find all the item numbers as they do tend to vary and there are different types of root canals.

Some days it's just cheaper to have the tooth taken out.

BTW I would be hard pushed to have dental surgery overseas (except for a few countries). There is a high chance of a **** up that will then cost even more to be fixed.

Also consult other dentists and see if there is a dentist associated with HCF that you can see to reduce the costs HCF Dental Centres | HCF. Not all dentists are intent on renovating their bathroom for 3 root canals

 

I'd rather pay $6k for specialist dental surgery in Australia than be paid 6k to have it done in Thailand.

Is the recommendation from your regular trusted dentist? If not just make sure you do in fact need the root canals.

 

The dentist would have given you a written (printed) quote. The item numbers will be in the section where the dentist states what is recommended, probably to the left hand side of the names of those items (treatments).

Did the dentist say they all need to be done straight away? Often they do this to let you know what is coming up in the future so you can budget for it.

PS private health insurance is notorious for being useless when it comes to anything other than the basic dental treatments.

 

I'd see another dentist..
One dentist told me I needed a root canal. I then received advice from a friend to check with another dentist who said a crown would be fine.. 4 years later it's still good. With private health insurance I was out of pocket a couple hundred at the most for the crown.

If 3 x root canals was unavoidable I'd be booking a ticket to Thailand, no problems.

 

If you put it out on air tasker, I'm sure that you'll get some takers.
