    My friend put fake grass into their yard. Looks fine, no maintenance but hot to walk on in hot weather.

    Mongolia grandiflora is classier than most and has compact forms litte gem ,teddy bear or port wine .

    They can be kept around 2 or 3 m with a shape prune in the first few years.

    Any good for near a swimming pool? Are they messy? I have a very narrow border to fill and need about 2 - 2.5 metres (coastal Queensland)

    I ended up going for the westringia posted earlier and fingers crossed it will pay off!

    Evergreen Magnolias in coastal QLD are worth a try as long as not past say Coolum. They do prefer inland like Toowoomba .

    They will only drop a few flowers ( btw producing a unique scent, post gets deleted if more descriptive than that ) and easily tidied up. Gl
