    Hi all,

Looking to get plantation shutters for my new PPOR - apparently PVC has improved a lot and is widely accepted now. Wood isn't much more expensive now.

Any tips on what to look for here? Also, can anyone recommend where to buy from in Sydney? I also need some sheer curtains...

    Thanks!

Very hard to tell the difference once painted.

PVC is more hardy, won't get water damaged or heat damaged.

Wood is lighter, and may have better insulation properties.

I've only imported mine from overseas for DIY, and I like PVC as you don't need the fumigation certificate.

I've noticed some seal better than others.. I'll be looking for one that seals tight (I like the room pitch black at night!) - is PVC or wood better or worse for this, or does this come down to the design of the shutter mechanism?

PVC if it's a bathroom or you like to keep your windows open a bit during the day and there is a chance some rain might hit them.

Hey Myf, won't be doing bathrooms - just bedrooms and living room.

pvc ones can delaminate if they get wet or damp
if they were the same price i would go timber
having said that - the idea of having to paint them later would be annoying
so if you want white shutters just go pvc

I think the PVC would slightly seal better, since it is heavier, but I have found it comes down to the mechanism, and the overall build quality. as for a close seal you need all of the louvers to be precisely at the same angle.

I got mine from Wynstan, I loved them. I had to get one in cedar due to the size of the window. They closed well. Good luck.
