[Mod note: split off from a thread about forum advertising]

With the pink diamonds there is a limited market due too the supply is about to finish..

Investment wise ,I have a few old playboy's from the mid 1980's with the same type adds only the entry price was 5k ,those diamonds would still be the same value today..

A one carat pink or clear diamond above 4 grms sells for under 400bucks plus 18% buyers fees at the link below.but it could be pink sapphire.[IMG]

Really? I don't know?? i think its very much dependent on the quality, size of diamond and whether it comes with gia cert etc

The pink argyle diamonds are rare ???

Not an expert on pink diamonds but just what I have read and a gemologist told me can be much more expensive than white diamonds??

Pink diamond on a 9k ring? Not impossible, but I reckon unlikely.

Same could be said for white diamonds

Its quality will determine price..... cut, carat, clarity
Cut is by far most important whether its white or pink

What happens when lab diamonds are 1% of the price of mined diamonds and indistinguishable from them without destroying them?
If there was a risk of apartments selling for $6k a pop, suspended from sky hooks, I might also rethink this property investing thing...

You buy diamonds because the are shiny and keep your wife happy.
They have no real value. Price is controlled by rate of supply by major producers.

I own a few small pink diamonds in my rings, mostly because I love the colour and would rather wear something a little more unique than a clear diamond. A decent 1ct pink diamond is beyond rational decision making tho

I think it will be a pink sapphire, but you never know as this is a POLICE SEIZED auction and you may have only 3--5 people bidding on each lot as most at these auction's don't buy the scrap gold and the stones. ..imho..

I,m not a expert ,but I bought a argyle --pink about 29 years for my wife and even back then they were 50% more then the other stones ,plus most of the rings that go through the auctions come with paper valuations --only good for insurance as most sells for less then 20% of the paper value..imho..

Ended up paying $80.00 plus $5.45 gst% for that pink stone ,it was a pink sapphire and the stone is just over 2--1G so with the 3 other's I bought it worked out as planned..

Yes, it's wrong. You should only want blood diamonds. They're valued in how many people died for them.

My partner makes jewellery for a hobby. (Lucky me!)

My sister had always wanted a pink diamond ring, that retails for $48K. He made her one with platinum and white and pink moissanites for around $1K, which the family gave her for a milestone birthday.

Moissanites are lab-made stones (zinc carbide, *not* cubic zirconia) that have a higher refractive index (so sparklier) and indistinguishable to the vast majority of the population.

You can get them in any colour and cut, too, and they're conflict-free!
