A couple of years back I bought a DSLR and play around with photography. It's different seeing the world through the viewfinder, and freezing a moment in time.

For those who are snaphappy, post your single most favourite photo.
If there's a story behind it, what is it? (If not too personal, revealing).

Mine has no story- shot of a ski field during high winds, seeing all the ice in the air.

Difficult to pick a favourite as I have so many from my travels. In terms of amazing for me, it's this shot of an amazing sunset I took at Dingboche in Nepal in January 2013. Notice the face?

Walking towards the warmth of a meals hut heated by a dung-fire, I noticed this sunset so raced into the tent to grab my camera. Had no time for the tripod but very happy with the resulting image.

This was on an 18 day walking trek of the Everest Circuit. Predominately we stayed in tents and our two highest camps were at 5000m either side of the Cho La Pass - In the Himalayas - in the middle of Winter!

On this day we woke at 3am to commence the walk from Gorek Shep to the top of the 5545m Kala Patta which is a small peak adjacent to Everest Base camp. We then spent the rest of the day making our way all the way down the Khumbu valley to Dingboche.

Oh wow, this is like picking your favourite child.... I have 187,155 photos in my Lightroom catalogue (not all of them good!) and picking just one....!

Here's one I took over 8 years ago and only re-visited recently as it was in my 'seconds' pile. Landscapes, nature and flowers are my favourite things to photograph.

Finally putting some pictures up on my walls and got this printed poster size and really happy with it.

I also have a website with a lot more of my favourites :D

    Just one photo? That's difficult!

This is one of my favourites - Firebush in Parque Nacional Los Glaciers (The Glaciers National Park) near El Calafate in Argentina (Patagonia).

This is one of 8 photos that I use as Windows desktop backgrounds.

You can read the trip journal for that day here: Day 27 - El Calafate and Parque Nacional Los Glaciers - The Rhyme of Sim'

10005807_10154013435265375_4946649958326537297_o.jpg Hard to narrow it down. I'm going to commission a painter to paint this English countryside one day. Not photographically perfect, but has sentimental value

This was a Scottish castle I visited with my family. It was so incredibly windy that we were all literally blown over on the way out, into the mud. Inside the castle was protected, and beautifully preserved.

A bit more of Oz. No real story.

Stayed near here one night. Saw this bridge at sunset. Thought it would look better at sunrise. It did.

Cusco, Peru. Festival of Corpus Christi, 2015.

There had been a big celebration in the centre of town, which I had attended for some hours along with hundreds of thousands of other people. I was very tired by the afternoon, and as I was walking home, I found a big group of locals in colourful costume, dancing and playing music. This wasn't a tourist event- I was one of the few white people, and I only saw one other camera in the small group on onlookers.

DSC04298.JPG This photo, considering the equipment used - a Sony DSC-P10 which would probably struggle against many mobile phones today.

    Edit: Oh the story!
This was taken on a beach in Bintulu many years ago when I visited (the camera was already a bit aged though!). It was land held under the equivalent of native title, but it was forcibly sequestered by the government, the residents kicked out, the houses demolished, and a deep water habour built in its place.... :(

Yikes. You can put it to tender for local artists who will paint to your own budget. Most people say up to $500

Thank you :) Recently acquired skill that still needs a lot of fine tuning! Thankfully there's quite a few places around here where there's not much light pollution.

I took this on a really old and crappy digital camera about 12 years ago in the UK (Lakes District). Lakes District.jpg

Unfortunately the camera back then did a max res of 640X480 :(.

Edit: Wow, it looks completely different on the forum than it does if you just open the file on my computer, it's heaps blurry on the forum.
