My parents house when I was about 2 so awhile ago :), a man had died in the bathroom years before, epileptic fit I think. So the story goes told by Mum & Dad, our cat, refused to step foot in the bathroom the entire time we lived there and would raise its hackles anytime she came near it.

    I'm a skeptic but it's weird.

I didn't bother taking a photo on my iPhone, but anyone who has been to Fremantle Jail would recall the ghost of Martha Rendell visible in the window - only on looking in on the window as if she is looking out. There is nothing from the other side. Screen Shot 2015-10-15 at 7.56.49 pm.png

These are funny. Imagine if you died and all you could come up with to do with your time was to smudge a window or make a bright blurry effect in a camera lense. Bloody hell these ghosts need to stop stuffing around, get off their backsides and get some real jobs.

Why is it that when people see something unusual that they don't understand, they immediately think ghost (or god) ?

Why don't they think Hmmm... could be something completely natural like a smudge on the lens or trick of the light or cloud of dust or just my imagination or one of my many cognitive biases that's kicking in again ?

Because people are superstitious due to a propensity to recognize patterns that may not be there as its safer to be too sensitive to pattern recognition rather than not sensitive enough.

If people dont mind being compared with pigeons then this is a good read about how superstitious behaviour is conditioned through random pairings with a reinforcing agent. http://psychclassics.yorku.ca/Skinner/Pigeon/

I do think that most people (like me :D) do think about what else it could be. I'm open minded enough to know that nobody knows what they don't know.

The photo I saw this week was spine tingling. The people who work there have (many of them, not all) felt, seen and experienced unusual things in the building where a murder took place, over many years, different staff, without knowing what others have seen, heard or felt to influence them. My (very normal) friends have accepted their ghost, but people who don't know anything have left in fear when sleeping there. Drawers open and shut, footsteps in an empty house. This has happened and the visitor did not know anything about the history there. He had no idea. But he left and wouldn't sleep there.

For me, there are too many unusual things to be explained away, but I'm not trying to convince anybody. I posted more out of interest than anything. I do find it fascinating. And another house I've written about a few streets away has never had anyone stay more than three to six months. Especially when an IP, tenants just left, over and over for the same reason. Coincidence? Maybe.

These people I've written about are going to see if they reproduce the photo. It could be a trick of the light? But gee it looked like a man ;).
