Wholesale is a good vehicle at

Was it setup as wholesale originally or was it the higher fee retail fund initially then transferring to the lower fee wholesale option?

Re your wife's index fund perhaps it's a result of the incredibly long running bond bull market now basically at an end, exposure to International and currency. Tell her she's just been lucky and her gloating is premature, your LICs / shares will way outperform her in the next decade:).

Although in our household it would be futile for me to suggest anything I do is better than my wife's way. As she often tells me, there's my view then there's the correct one (being hers).

My wife is quite risk adverse so the balanced fund was something she was comfortable with. Had a good look around and the Vanguard index funds were the 'best' product. Street tracks have a similar fund (even lower cost) as well but is too aggressive for my wife’s risk tolerance. Started with the retail fund then moved to wholesale after reading on a whirlpool forum that 100k is enough.

It was a good choice and very happy with them![/QUOTE]

Smart man! Even after incurring the CGT for converting to the Wholesale fund, long term outlook with no fiddling around!

If you ask them nicely 100k is enough to open a wholesale fund!

And a lesser BPay amount than the publicised minimum of $5k (from memory).

I've heard of others Bpaying some rediculously low amounts into the wholesale funds. If you ask them if you can BPay a small amount they discourage it but it would seem the system does accept quite low amounts.

Yes, and don't I regret it if I try to introduce a Rule#3:eek:. Again back to Rule#1 with deep regret. Men are very slow learners, me particularly so:(.

The other rule is "don't discuss investing with wife after her eyes glaze over":eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:. Very deep regret experienced by me.

I think the teaching could be redone?
Make sure she's following and understanding what you say, all along the way.

Me, way before that and even before Peter returned to Australia there was Daryl Dixon over 32 years ago who advised me to do similar.. The approach is far from new but with Peter's writing and presentation skills the message is more powerful and reaches more people. He did spend a lot of his working life in sales and marketing for fund Mgrs so he's a professional at presenting.
