It looks like someone parked a kaboodle in the middle of tiles expo.

What no way! How much were they selling them for? 20-30k?? Smallest lot I found was 150m2. A 50m2 block of land that is ridiculous. Who in their right mind would buy that. We not living in Mumbai here.

Basically they were the left over rear corner laneway blocks - a garage at the bottom with one bedroom and living up the top
I'm not having much luck finding it now as it was a couple of years ago but this would come close

50sqm apartment, no one bats an eyelid.

50sqm land, people lose their minds.

50m2 apartment is just as bad. Better of with a town house then a jail cell on a 50m2 block of land.

Wow - that's pretty narrow thinking.
If you consider when many developed countries were first settled and didn't have "need" for McMansions there was a lot of housing on sub 75sqm blocks.
Go up, not out. It's not a jail cell.

50sqm land could give you three or four floors.

How is that the same as an apartment...?

Wait....sorry, trollbait. Nearly took a bite too.

Not talking about McMansions here. That's one extreme to the other. Each to their own, I just could not justify paying for such a small piece of land in especially in Brisbane and especially in an area like Fitzgibbon. Obviously depends on price, if the block was maybe 10 or 20 thousand dollars it's a cheap alternative, what was the price of those blocks per sqm2?

I would like to know what the banks would value such small pieces of land for, and would they categorize it as high risk.

You would probably find as a complete package they would value up the same as any other single or two bed dwelling.

Would be interesting to find out. If any body has purchased one of these micro blocks in Brisbane maybe they can share their valuation and how much they purchased the land for.

Not to mention your own green title lot, no strata. This article didn't help quoting the total build price as the land only component. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story as they say.

Micro lots will change housing landscape

Heaven forbid you take away the great Western Australian dream of a 200m2 front yard absolutely no one uses.

My 90sqm lot size townhouses are coming along and I'm biaised but they are bloody fantastic. A nice dose of diversity for Highgate with 1 bedroom + study townhouses

I was quite surprised, was walking the dogs and had a little peek. Even though this suburb is primarily period homes, these apartments/units look great and seem to blend in, I think the elevation is edgy.

    Great stuff

It's by Midland Brick (or Boral whatever they are calling themselves these days) and named Restoration Red. Restoration Red Cored Bricks - Midland Brick
I actually first used this brick in 1998 on my first IP - I'm so retro!! There is a same colour but tumbled version as well but it's more expensive and I wanted the colour to tie in and complement the area but still be clean cut contemporary.

    You're back?? Welcome home.
    Thanks
I tried to blend in with colours to the surrounding houses so it was complementary to the area but the style is still very contemporary.

Now the development is complete and I have personally inspected 2 of the townhouses, I have to agree with your assessment that they are "bloody fantastic". I liked the back one off the laneway better. For the size of the lot, they had an amazing amount of out door living area. I would be happy to live there! :D

    In the news...

"The WA Planning Commission wants more terrace housing in Western Australia with a new draft position statement released on Tuesday recommending the minimum green title block be shrunk from 100 square metres to 80 square metres.

...The draft position statement has been released for public comment until May 14."

Terrace housing trend: WA minimum block size likely to shrink to 80sqm
