    As do I - and it will happen - but I'm not prepared for it to be rushed and at the expense of lives lost

    Rather an overdramatic statement

    Perth-based Australian Medical Association president Dr Omar Khorshid opposed McGowan's decision not to re-open on February 5:

    "Look to South Australia for an alternative to the NSW/Vic approach -set a date and stick to it- not another vaccination target. Omicron is here already, and it will cause a significant outbreak in WA soon enough. Sticking our head in the sand won't make it go away. Let's prepare!".

    The economy will rebound once the isolation regulations are removed and we can live with an endemic virus. You're also assuming that he plans to open up in a few months. How do you know he won't keep the border closed for the rest of the year or until WA has a 90%+ booster rate?

    In the meantime anyone who wants to come to WA on compassionate grounds still needs to be triple vaccinated, have a negative PCR test AND do 14 days of quarantine. He has gone past protecting the state now and is doing more harm than good. Perhaps you'll share my opinion in a few months time if WA is still closed with no official opening date/end in sight.

    How about everyone focus on what they have - rather than what they perceive they've lost - be in the here an now and look inwards to how your internal talk is influencing your attitude

    And yet......

    "The new cases came as the WA branch of the Australian Medical Association (AMA) again called on the state government to strengthen restrictions in order to get ahead of the Omicron outbreak.

    An indoor mask mandate place in Perth, Peel and the South West regions of WA remains the only restriction currently being enforced, aside from vaccine mandates.

    "Modest restrictions now may reduce the need for harsher restrictions later by flattening the curve and pushing the peak further away," AMA WA president Mark Duncan-Smith said.

    "Modest restrictions now may avoid the need for lockdown in the future, which should only be indicated if it is imminent and obvious that out medical system is about to be overrun.

    "Early action is better than late reaction.

    "Omicron is out there even as we speak. We do not have adequate suppression measures in place currently."

    WA records 13 new COVID cases as virus seeps into South West region

    Asides from quoting an anaesthetist, a gastroenterologist, potentially an un-named/identified ER doctor and an un-named/identified GP ... who are the other 996 in this clickbait opinion piece (written by the digital culture editor of The Age)?

    **note - The Age is a left of centre media outlet with a high "factual reporting" credibility. Meets all my usual go to criteria, but this is a vague opinion piece IMO

    Just waiting for the official change of policy to:

    a) 95% of eligible population fully vaxxed;
    b) 80% of eligible population triple/booster vaxxed;
    c) ATAGI to announce jabs safe for under 5's;
    d) Rinse & repeat message;
    e) COAG who?;
    f) Christmas 2023

    Gotta meet those deadlines. :rolleyes:

    The real reason he is not opening borders is because the health system is a mess.
