I trust WA is better prepared than Qld or, at least, learn the lessons from us.

Daughter’s partner due to fly in on 5th Feb. He is a mine manager, relocated (home) to Queensland last year due to border closures.

Company desperate to get him back to WA due to FIFO worker shortages, probably just transit Perth and then be flown direct to the mine.

    Never lived in Perth.

Always FIFO from Queensland despite WA attempts to force families to relocate.

These are the countries which have, reportedly, been able to keep Covid out.
    1. Cook Islands
    2. Federated States of Micronesia
    3. Kiribati
    4. Nauru
    5. Niue
    6. North Korea
    7. Pitcairn Islands
    8. Saint Helena
    9. Tokelau
    10. Tonga
    11. Turkmenistan
    12. Tuvalu
For those countries, and States, which have had a low case load, what has happened when they have opened up?

As for WA, well, this should concern some but probably doesn't. Fingers, legs and toes crossed.

Ambulance Perth - Ambulance Activity and Response Times - St John Ambulance

"Hospitals aim to receive all patients within 30 minutes of our arrival at the ED. If it takes longer than 30 minutes, this is referred to as ramping. We therefore record the time (in hours) that ambulances are parked outside a hospital, waiting to handover the care of the patient."

I heard the seafood is really good there.

Also I'd plan to drive around say the top 10 suburbs recommended here so I have a feel for the place if I ever buy (would be years away as I have no money, but it wouldn't hurt to familiarize myself while I'm there). My friend keeps going on about a suburb called Subiaco so I'll have to check it out.

Subi is an inner city suburb with many period homes. Its very charming, I would also look at Other inner city areas ie Mt Lawley, North Perth, Mt Hawthorn, Wembley

Of course its depends on the size of your wallet

Friends in Brisbane, Tasmania & Maleny were saying people are entering premises without scanning in so there is no contact tracing. I see people not bothering in major supermarkets here but my chemist won’t let you in the door without scanning/signing. I wonder if it will get stricter.

Yes, I traveled to Brisbane on the 17th - the first Friday of the first week of the borders opening up, during peak hour mind you. Not a single checker in site, zero sign of any border measures. Going to Bunnings had more security than going into QLD. If Perth is the same then expect numbers to go otto blotto.

There will be an initial burst of people coming across for the first few weeks to catch up with friends/family, just like QLD.

After that I expect all hospitality and retail to crash in WA once the virus spreads like wildfire like the other states. Then people go turtle and just stop going out to avoid catching the virus, or have to isolate at home.

Same happening in Brisbane. Nobody venturing out. Tens of thousands off on sick leave.

It'll be even more odd for you guys as you've had hardly any restrictions, and most things have been carrying on as normal up until now.

But it should only be temporary as people get used to the new normal.. hopefully it only lasts a couple more months at most.

I reckon Perth will be hit just as hard as soon as they open up.

Once you open up, the inevitable will happen imo.

The number of cases will go up a lot, quickly. I think that’s unavoidable when WA border opens. The only way for low number of infection is not asking people to test like what is happening in NSW!

it’s a mindset shift though that we decide to live with it; booster shot and minimise hospitalisation and death. Not sure how ready is WA for that mindset as they have been zero covid until now.

I also think delaying the border opening does not change that as much. It makes little different if 89% or 93% vaccination.
