I had this argument with my sister, she works in the public healthcare system, and argues she couldn't do her job if she didn't enjoy it, whilst I like my job, I couldn't enjoy it if there was a ceiling on my income and if I wasn't earning good money. I don't believe you can love your job enough to be happy, I think you need money to be happy, those who say money isn't important don't have any usually.

For those who love their job, if you won lotto..... would you be out the door in a flash? Just curious.

Also, do many people condition themselves to love their job? Does that make any sense:)

No, I enjoy standing up for the rights of landowners where they are being taken for a ride by big business.

I get paid what you folks would call a pittance, but I get a few perks too. If I did a full time gig in the city and was paid according to my quals and experience, I would have to give half of the difference to QldRail anyway. I cant work full time anyway due to the Aspergers. Instead I get to spend too much time on PC, plan and execute my Property Business and have 11 weeks paid holidays each year. This weekend we start a two week renovation while both of us are still at work all day.

I didn't like it last year when there were issues with management, but that person isn't there at the moment and currently I love every minute of my job. I get warm fuzzies and lots of free time. Did you know that teachers get 11 weeks holiday very year? That's not true, I'm not paid to be a teacher. I get all the nice feels of being a teacher but without most of the endless reporting they have to do.

Would I resign if I won lotto? Hell yeah. But as I do not waste any funds gambling, I will resign only when our equity reaches the magic Retirement figure. If I ever get bored there will be plenty of casual work in this industry.

Part time gravy train passenger, part time making money from property :D I like what I'm doing because every day is different, I meet some real characters every day, I can combine travel with work, I get good perks (currently posting from a lovely hotel weekend break care of the workplace) and I choose when I work. What would I do different? As I make more money I do more projects.

I think I've just put you off too, I tried chopped up 'alive' octopus in Korea. They were hard to get off the plate and had an interesting sensation in the mouth

Some pretty cool jobs here, mine's a bit obvious!

    What do you do?
Small Business Owner and Property Manager.
What do you like and dislike about it?
Like: Always loved being a Property Manager (weird right?) but owning the business takes it to a whole new level of fulfillment. The role is so varied on so many levels, so many different skills, it NEVER gets boring. I could go on for days...!
Dislike: I find it disheartening dealing with nasty people, or people who can't help themselves. I have a huge admiration for 'noble' careers (i.e. health, justice, research, education, etc.) and a small part of me feels like I'm not 'giving back'.
What else would you be doing if you weren't in your current job?
In another life I would have loved to be a planner.

    What do you do?
Help run an independent school. About 30% of my time involves building projects.

    What would I do otherwise?
Host Top Gear in between property developments.

I loved medical research. I loved coming up with ideas that no one in the world ever thought about and getting to publish them and present them to scientist all over the world.

I did not love continuously applying for grants and a capped salary that was not indicative of how hard or smart I was working.

As an entrepreneur, I also love coming up with new ideas to do things that no one ever thought about and I love that how much money I make is directly promotional to how hard I work - nailed it!!!

Mine isn't that flash , but l really like it for it;s perks, and l quite enjoy the work to but l'm selling myself way short though l must admit, but it's the perks and some parts of the job.
l was an artist , painter, for a long time , some of you lucky devils might even have one of my paintings, no not tellin . But you'd think that would be a dream job right, but it actually drives you a bit barmy, separates you from everyday life, a big reason why l quit. If your a full on full time take it all too serious type anyway. Especially when you become known, everythings different,
l was really scared of becoming mega famous because my world would be even more stuffed then.

What l'm doing now, its not bad, nice and normal haha.

l reckon one of the coolest jobs l've seen was on a vic country train.
So nice and relaxed cruising up and down on a train.
Bought some lunch and got talking to the guy at the kiosk , What a job, it had a big window, trains mostly only 1/2 full an he travels up and baxk through country vic to melbourne, enjoying the scenery and writing a book in his quiet times , which were pretty well all the time.
l said l want your damn job you got a life and a half here. He said yeah too right, l'm gonna miss it when my books out and l become famous.

My other half is 2IC in a research facility, while she knows the place just couldnt run without her, research funding cuts topped with them trying to strip the guts out of all "excess" spending at the drop of a hat doesn't make it enjoyable for her at all.

I absolutely love my job, some people wake up and think "Oh god I have to get up and go to work", I am not one of those people..... ever :). I would like to point out though, as much as I love my job, I would rather not have to work, being that I do currently have to earn an income, this is definitely the way i want to do it :).

So my job title is Customer Insights Manager, my previous one was Manager, Digital Operations and before that was VMI Technical Specialist. The title is completely meaningless, what I actually do is process improvement through automation, I am a coder but I am also a person with a very sound understanding of most aspects of business, I guess you could almost describe my skills as a Technical Business Analyst. I theorise it, I design it, I build it and I roll it out.

I love that I get to code but I also get to be the designer, I am a one stop shop. I should point out here, no one really gives me my projects, I determine what the business needs then I build it and it's better than it used to be. If my boss has something specific he needs then I do it, otherwise I just manage my own work and projects. People know if they need something automating, I am the guy to come to to get it done.

The only thing I would rather be doing than my job is to be retired, walking hand in hand every day on the beach with my wife for the rest of our lives :).

Yes I would 100% be out the door, not due to a dislike of the job but because there are there are avocational things I would rather be doing.

No I haven't conditioned myself to love my job, some of my prior ones I hated with a passion, I genuinely love my job and am truly lucky to have ended up in the career I have :).
