I'm interested to hear from people who love their job:
    What do you do?
What do you like and dislike about it?
What else would you be doing if you weren't in your current job?

I'm contemplating other career options. I'm 24 and have been a community pharmacist for a couple of years. I enjoy the fact that I can help people and being a locum is flexible enough to accommodate my current insatiable travel bug. However I often feel underappreciated as a pharmacist, especially with the ever looming worry of making a mistake that can potentially really harm someone. My ideal job would probably be the next Andrew Zimmern from Bizarre Foods cause I'm pretty game to try new stuff and would love to travel the world doing so! Or more realistically I'm contemplating taking up a trade like becoming a locksmith (not sure how this short Asian female would fare as a tradie though :D)

I like Anthony Bourdain, but I think he is enjoying his job way too much, he is always getting drunk or suffering a hangover

Floyd was quite liberal too. :p

I am quite passionate about one of my jobs - mixes working with legislation, property rights, construction, interpretation of design, site visits and enforcement (including upsetting the apple cart).

What do you do? Real estate related projects and some consulting
What do you like and dislike about it? I like the excitement, deal making, creativity and wealth creation. Dislike dealing with councils and some thug builders.
What else would you be doing if you weren't in your current job? become a full time PC spruiker.

I would like to add though, I would never love any job that I know wouldn't allow me to create wealth and at the very least, have a fantastic retirement. I simply could never be excited about any job long term knowing I will have to struggle or live a very mediocre retirement. Couldn't do it, no matter how awesome the job was.

What do you do? Paraplanning Manager at Australia's No. 1 Independent Financial Services Support firm.

What do you like and dislike about it? I love (almost) everything about it. I dislike dealing with advisers who provide questionable advice.

What else would you be doing if you weren't in your current job? Pornstar

You've obviously never worked in hospitality, lol.

    Hi @WICB,
I've got a short arsed Asian younger sister who did pharmacy so she ended up in Pharmacy research after working retail pharmacy for a couple of years in Wagga.
That worked out because her husband (boyfriend at the time) had project work that was in that town.

What do you do? Build reporting for CBA using SQL (Teradata and SQL Server), Excel (incl vba), rectify defects/make changes as required and see what I can do to improve processes. (Eg. Automation)

What do you like and dislike about it? I looooove to problem solve and make things better and I get to do that all day long :)
Additionally, I have a truly excellent manager, he always knows exactly what to say, he is a mentor. Whenever I might mention who you work for, everybody is of the same opinion. I'm very lucky to work with him. He lets me be me, and gives excellent feedback :)

What else would you be doing if you weren't in your current job? I don't know really. Possibly getting a bunch of airbnb properties and managing them perhaps?

    What do you do?
Run a small business, but just sold it so phasing out of work at the moment.
What do you like and dislike about it?
Constantly having to take responsibility for absolutely everything and can't just take time off whenever I feel like it.
Also having to always solve all the problems which arise, it's challenging, but get sick of it after a while.
What else would you be doing if you weren't in your current job?
Down to only 3 days a week of work now, from this week.
Will be doing physical training on my non-work days and aim to be training full time in 3 months from now.
May get into some athletics/sports coaching much further down the track if I ever feel like working again.

Deliver babies and other secret Women's business
What do you like and dislike about it?
Always feel blessed to be doing this job. I still get an adrenaline rush and you get to meet all sort of different people. Love teaching emergency drills and lucky to work with a bunch of lovely people.
Dislikes- Hours are long, it's basically 24/7. Some medical students can be hard to teach :p

What else would you be doing if you weren't in your current job?
Can't think of anything else for the moment :)

The behind the scenes stuff is probably not as glamorous as it appears...

In his former life I think he was a crack and heroin addict, got himself out of the gutter, give him kudos for that one.

It was interesting when he came to Sydney it was obvious he was not impressed with our food culture.

    Did anyone watch that show?

I don't like bizarre foods, Andrew Zimmern after watching him eat a live octopus? Put me right off him

Yeah Andrew Zimmern is too animated, constantly trying to crack jokes etc. Its a bit annoying. I prefer more old school laid back English presenters like Rick Stein.

Possibly - I particularly like the shows where he travels - the ones where he went to India, Sri Lanka, Asia etc - they're a great watch. Its a travel and cooking show all in one.

Yes, I have lots of respect for our midwives. Couldn't survive without them :)

Whilst I won't tell you what my job is, I very much love it, and actually couldn't picture myself doing anything else.
I made the massive career move when I was 24 and it was the best decision ever. My pay went down to begin with, and I had to pay for the study, but I now go to work keen, and happy to be there. Make the move - never a better time.
