Not really peeking over the fence, more looking down at my neighbour. The fella has a yard adjusting to the apartment (fully fenced and exclusive). The fella has been building a roof over the fenced yard for better part of Sunday. The fellas seems to be South East European family that moved in recently. Strata regulations here might be different to the fellas home country.

I am sipping my wine. I couldn't care less as I am renting this place, but this made me wonder. If you have an exclusive yard attached to the unit, can you really put a roof over it? Would strata come and tear it down? Especially if the roof is visible?

How do you know he didn't get approval?

Strata rules in places I have lived have often allowed pergolas and similar (where you have an exclusive area), but you'd typically need to get approval from the committee / group.

Would be strange if they did. This complex is clean as a hospital, everything is uniform and there is absolutely nothing altered/ added by anyone. I’m talking about something over 1,000 units.

If he did get an approval then good on him for making a home out of a uniform, ugly place. Some diversity is a good thing.

Does it have council approval ?

One of the probs with strata property is often nongs just do as they want, total disregard for every rule or by law.

I have seen units where people had removed internal walls, they were renters, I remember some guy donkeys ages ago did this in a unit in St George area, he bought the one next door and just knocked down the dividing wall....lol..... great if you have money into the place & what is worse, is a lot of BC are dysfunctional or do nothing to rectify.
