Thank you Bayview- for adding some sense to this forum.

Comments like, "Nonetheless, I have a feeling that most young women have no clue.." (Page 1) are generalised and unfair. We don't live in the 1950's anymore- in fact more women attend (and finish) university than men. Graduating doesn't necessarily mean you are not clueless but this stereotype is outdated and incorrect.

I work in investment banking, as a female and have never felt discriminated against and know for a fact that my pay is not any less than my male peers. As for having less women in the board room, or senior management, if you have two candidates up for a position, both the same age, same education but the male has ten years more experience as the woman took ten years from her career to raise her children, why wouldn't you pick the one who has more experience? This is not to devalue the role of raising children but from a business perspective, it doesn't really make sense to hire the person with significantly less experience.

Sorry for the rant- I am just tired of this stereotype that women are clueless, paid less etc. There are a LOT of very intelligent, successful and educated women out there and just because some web poll shows that there are only 17% of women investing in property, does not mean the majority of women are clueless and not interested in their financial future.

@jodes I too work in IB. Perhaps you are talking about those that you are surrounded with. You don't need to look at stats. Just look around you that most do not take financial future seriously. It's not a stereotype. It's a fact. Your reality and surroundings may not reflect that. However it IS the norm outside the IB world. Also even in the IB world delayed gratification is unknown.

The post didn't say that women inherently get paid less. However the fact that women do end up settling for less (often by choice, regardless of family or not). You may not, but majority do. And the idea is to challenge the status quo.

Just step out of the IB frame for a moment. Not everyone gets to work for an IB.

Who cares ladies...I see a lot of IB...and not impressed....most of them (both male and female) have no clue. The environment they work in are charged with egos...from my perspective they are pretty cluesless bunch...when i comes to building real wealth.....

A vast majority of career professionals I know including some very high earning people ($500k+) seem to be clueless about investing....sure they are good at their fields and not many people are cluey.

Another thing I see is the amount of people under 35 who lack the depth of experience ....thought they seem to think they are the bees knees in their professions.

I think most times discrimination is in the mind. it does happen but at the end of the day if you work hard and know what you want- you are the only one stopping yourself. At the same time many people don't know what they want and the more they get paid the more they pay for their lifestyle

There will be more men on here because women find men with money more attractive, whereas men would pounce on a homeless lady without a cent to her name if she looked like Megan Gale.

Similarly, you won't find many men on a forum dedicated to cosmetics.

Is that why you are here?
I'm not so certain all women are after wealty men.
Can we please get back on topic about women needing to take ownership rather than foster dependency..possibly due to deeper message and stereotypes such as the one @miked also happens to believe in?

Just a joke Sind1................lets face it ...Australia as a country is probably one of the most sexist in the world. Even in the so called third world there are more women in Senior positions.

Having said that....I have seen some very incompetent women get promoted...in any case cream always rises to the top in some way or form.

Yes everyone is different - but men and women look for different things in the opposite sex and I think that plays a part in future ambitions. I also don't think there's anything wrong with genders being different.

There's even an article on it and we all know the internet has never steered anyone wrong! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-looks-women-need-partner-rich-ambitious.html

There will always be people who don't conform to a stereotype, but generally stereotypes become stereotypes for a reason.

Well there is 3000 views since Wednesday for that thread in Where to Buy...

A girl once told me that she thought many women feel that 1 of the most attractive features of any man is when he is totally passionate and successful in what he does.
