Out of curiosity, where would these people stand in relation to their financial wealth and security today? Incl the prtnrs you worked for ;)

A promo may give someone 10-15-20k more, but the compounding capital growth dwarfs any of it - especially once one has a large enough portfolio (I know large is a relative term) - but say 5% pa of $3m = $150k pa....$4m = $200k pa so on and so forth.

I am glad about the path we have chosen :) it is much quicker!

Certainly...well promotions can land you 50k plus additional bonuses....

Well the ones in the Big 4 are on something like 250-350k as Directors or Partners....but..they have no life. They also do not have much real wealth other than their houses. Because they live in Sydney some have made about $500k in net wealth. ....but pales in comparison to investors in this site.

Money aside...investing gives you more time and peace of mind which people do not have. You have more money...but time you cannot more of....

$500k is incredibly small given their take home earnings.

It is a bit of a treadmill :)

Definitely - time is so important - what is the point of having all the earnings if you don't have the time. As RK says - active vs passive income - passive income you do the work once, and it continues on paying.

    125 - Male 80.6%!!!!
    30 - Female 16%!!

Rather disappointing stat. I guess ABS would be an obvious place to look for further info into patterns around incomes, super etc

    come on really?

firstly it is always wise to pass on a sound financial education to your kids, if anything it means they can survive something like the above happening if it did.

secondly im sure the same could be same the other way, although prob not quite 50/50 there are a fair few couples i know where the wife/gf is the more ambitious/successful/richer one

Seen this a bit in the corporate world, where the woman is the higher income earner and the husband may have just settled to be a house husband or blue collar worker.

True. But aren't the posters a very small % of the wider population? Most Gen Y prolly don't have a clue..

I've been guilty of it myself. Women perpetrate it on other women. At least that's what my culture does. Western is no different I believe. A training I went to recently changed my view. At least I'm better able to spot it within myself now...

I used to think women real estate agents don't really make deals happen but they probably do?

Most all gens don't have a clue unfortunately. We have a long and proud history of a distinct lack of financial intelligence in this country, thr fact that less tha 10% of baby boomers will be self funded retirees despite living through a pretty bloody prosperous time in this country and a fair few booms is evidence of this.

It isn't solely related to Gen ys. In fact I've met some very impressive teenagers over the last couple of years

Technology and the wealth of knowledge has certainly helped. Not that it's an excuse for previous generations. Those who were going to make it happen would have.
