I might post here but my wife bought property and was interested in investing well before me in the 90's but she doesn't have the time anymore. Because of this I probably make most of our investing decisions now.

That kind of fits with what we have in the database.

We have 68 female and 286 male members who have chosen to set a gender in their profile ... which makes it just over 19% female.

From your stats so far - just under 18% female (but a much smaller sample, so some variance is expected).

Probably more a reflection of the medium (online discussion forum on a weekend), than the demographic.

I guess, it doesn't mean it's accurate, if only ~18% of the members set the gender on the profile!

There is no point passing on a sound financial education to my boys if it will be undone by a stunning eyelash batting woman.

There are some parents who educate their girls to find a 'good' husband to look after them. Rather than time and money spent on financially educating their girls, it is spent on their looks.

I didn't know that money could be spent on looks. I thought it was part of the genes.

I'd like to see this change myself. Women need to take charge of their financial future.

    Caution impending generalisations...

I think the reason why there are more guys is because guys tend to be less risk averse than women. And property investment and getting yourself into debt does have a risk element to it. So it makes sense that guys would be more involved in this.

This isn't to put women down though. Guys do lots of really stupid things because they don't have that sensible part of the brain that reminds them of the risk involved.

I know my wife is much less willing to invest in property than I am. However it's kind of like driving, sometimes it's really useful to put on the brakes.

Now these are all just generalisations and there are many women who are the ones pushing the throttle for more risk and more investments and their male partners are the ones putting on the brakes.
