    No way! Sydney CBD will be always the #1 city and Parramatta will be always #2. For parramatta to be on the 1st spot, it will need a drastic change the planning and developments which I dont think it will happen or even possible.

    Well I can't say it's from a reliable source as it was from either channel 9 or 10 from memory.

    It will get busier, but I don't think any station will ever be as busy as Central, because so many trains go through Central.
    That will only increase in the future.

    Parramatta’s CBD to get $8 billion transformation

    PARRAMATTA will become the engine room of the state’s economy with an $8 billion redevelopment of its CBD, 600 planning department jobs moved there and work to begin on the new Parramatta Stadium in January.

    Ahead of the Go West campaign Champions of the West dinner tomorrow night, Premier Mike Baird has laid out his vision for Sydney’s second city, saying the Greater Sydney Commission, led by Chair Lucy Turnbull, will drive the revitalisation.

    “Our nation’s prosperity very much depends on how successful we are in Western Sydney over the next five to 10 years,” Mr Baird declared.

    “Parramatta is a key part of that vision and it is a vital part of our plan for the future of NSW.

    “For our nation to prosper, we must make the most of the opportunities we have in Parramatta to provide jobs and economic development.”

    Western Sydney’s “engine room” is set for a major overhaul.

    The $8 billion worth of public and private investment in light rail, Powerhouse Museum relocation, Parramatta North Urban Renewal project, new Arthur Phillip High School and Westmead Hospital upgrades will form part of a new “framework” designed by Government Architect Peter Poulet.

    Its principles include:

    * That the north-south “spine” through the CBD should remain Parramatta’s key retail, cultural and residential strip;

    * This spine should be augmented by “shoulders” on the east and west dedicated to commercial and civic use;

    * The Riverbank and Parramatta Park be “preserved and enhanced as critical green space;

    * That major cultural facilities, such as the relocated Powerhouse Museum and new Western Sydney Stadium, are added to the “archipelago” of heritage, cultural, retail and dining facilities in the “spine”; and

    * There is a focus on improving connections between Westmead and the Parramatta CBD via light rail.

    “For the first time, Parramatta is really being seen as a proper centre for Sydney — which makes a lot of sense because it’s right in the middle of Sydney,” Ms Turnbull said.

    She said the appearance of a stadium and the Powerhouse Museum on the riverbank would revitalise that area.

    Mr Baird yesterday announced about 600 further Department of Planning and the Environment jobs will relocate from Sydney’s CBD to Western Sydney in 2019, forming part of a Planning and Environment “hub” of more than 2100 Planning, Environment and Heritage and Environment Protection Authority staff.

    In total more than 4200 public service roles will be relocated from the CBD to Western Sydney by 2019, with about 1000 of those already moved.

    Mr Baird also finally fixed a time for the $300 million rebuild of Parramatta Stadium — with a January 2017 start date for construction and the stadium ready in early 2019.

    I wonder what capacity the new stadium will be? I guess it could be home ground for both Parramatta Eels NRL and GWS Giants AFL teams?

    I think it would work better as a purpose build rugby/league stadium.
    You can get seats closer to the action then.

    Rebuid parra stadium to hold only a few thousand more than it does now and you lose the swimming pools in the process. That doesn't sounds suss at all.

    When was it built, like 1985-86?
    It doesn't look that bad, they should last longer than that.
    Look at the LA Colliseum. That was opened in 1923, the 1984 Olympics were held there, and it's still in use.

    The main reason for the redevelopment of Parramatta stadium is to cater for the massive supporter base the Western Sydney Wanderers have. The stadium has been sold out to fans for the past two seasons with members on waiting lists to purchase seats. New stadium will hold 30k with view to increase to 35k.

    Parramatta Eels will share the new stadium, but GWS giants already have Spotless stadium at Olympic park. Design for the new stadium has just been opened.

    The next stage of Telopea social housing redevelopment, across from the skate park should start soon. The residents are out and the fencing is up so Demo must be a few weeks away.

    Will have to look if we have tendered any of the works as we did the building next door with John Holland.
